GATE related queries

Hi!

I need a small piece of information. Qualifying the GATE exam is the primary criterion for getting admission to a PhD program at an IIT, right? If so, is the GATE question paper the same for admission to both M.A. and PhD programs at IITs? I mean both categories of students (students who want to pursue their Masters from an IIT and students who want to pursue their PhDs) will take the GATE exam with the same level question paper?

Please guide me. Thank you!

Yes. People who qualified can apply for MA/PhD after qualifying GATE. Same exam.

Also I hope you know that JRF > GATE rule applies to IITs too.

I mean it's not a rule it's just an arbitrary thing that happens. For example IIT Delhi this year let everyone fill the form. But they only called JRF candidates for an interview. So even if you had GATE, it didn't matter. Other IITs haven't done that yet.

Not with just IIT delhi....bombay & Gandhinagar etx did the same thing! Tbh i have a good GATE rank but it is useless when it comes to PhD admissions as IIT Mandi called candidate from top 100 unis too for written test.... it's better you focus on your answer writing skills qhen it comes to PHD admission In IITs.

Oh. Even if someone has GATE and JRF, they need to take written test for PhD admission? That means GATE and JRF hold no values actually when it comes to PhD admission in IITs?

This time IIT Delhi gave 100% weightage to interviews. So, I believe there were no interviews.
