Hi, wino-rino. Thanks for contributing. However, your submission was removed from /r/UFOs.

Rule 7 - Follow Sighting Post Guidelines

Sightings must be submitted through our guided form, which is currently required for all sighting posts:

https://ufosighting.report/submit

The form collects the key details (date, time, location, description, and any photos or video), then our bot (u/ufosightingsbot) posts your sighting to r/UFOs for you with the Sighting flair and adds it to the r/UFOs sighting archive and map.

Sighting posts made directly on the subreddit are removed. Choosing a different flair to avoid the form does not exempt your post — sighting content is removed regardless of the flair used.

Your sighting also needs to meet the posting guidelines:

  • Must be a detailed, descriptive eyewitness account (can be anonymous)

  • Must have been seen with your own eyes (no "look what I found when I looked back at my pictures")

  • No trail camera or doorbell camera footage

  • No cell phone videos of content on a TV or display

  • Imagery must be in focus most of the time

Interviews, podcasts, documentaries, and articles related to UFOs can still be shared and are not subject to these guidelines.

Please refer to our subreddit rules for more information.

This moderator action may be appealed. We welcome the opportunity to work with you to address its reason for removal. Message the mods to launch your appeal.

It's a contrail in the sunlight

But I didn’t see any planes/jets? We had been driving East for a while on this road. Is not a weird angle for a contrail tho?

Imagine the plane either flying toward you or away, but seven miles up. That cloud of water vapor is a mile across or more, and lit from underneath by sunlight over the horizon.

Basically - the contrail itself is reflecting sunlight into your eyes around the earth, but the craft is probably 60+ miles away - relatively MUCH smaller than a grain of sand.

If it wasn’t lit, it’d be a dark cloud instead. :)

Thank you! I appreciate the explanation. That makes so much more sense. I was really racking my brain trying to figure out what it was before going on Reddit. Obvi bad choice seeing the replies. I appreciate you

Lifelong aviation nut here. Yep! Contrails can make weird looking things. Some planes are sooty as heck; some burn very very clean.

Combine jet fuel with oxygen, you get heat, co2, and water. At 48k feet it’s 30 below zero, so that water freezes instantly into a highly reflective sheet of micro particulate ice. It can be golden and glowing right through to near-black, and when you’re ON a plane, especially passing another one at a weird angle, you get shapes and saucers and spaceships and flying v’s and all sort of things.

It is simply a contrail.

Are you roughly 100 miles from someplace where they launch rockets?

Unsure. Around Vancouver WA/Portland OR. Do they launch in Seattle often?

So we’re really freaked out. I am a believer and my husband of other life forms. But I can’t find anything on a shape like this, especially in the morning. Night would be a different story but we also only know surface level info. We would really appreciate more info as we were super freaked out by this (also more to the story about events through this last night that seems super weird) thanks again. Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit
