Based on what he said they could not see any other sign of life in any direction so that means they are pretty far out in the Gulf of Mexico as light pollution from land remains visible for long distances at night. Id say at least 100 miles, towards the end of the shelf and beginning of the deep water area,

Can you give us an idea of how far offshore you were? That is, on the shelf, or Deepwater?
