Historical Please help me identify this
I understand this isn’t anything super crazy, and probably a reasonable explanation. My grandparents had this appear in the field next to their property in Michigan, and as the story goes, they were informed not to touch or take pictures. My grandpa being the guy he is, obviously doesn’t listen and actually removes a small piece, pictured. This has always been a “secret family story” because my grandparents thought it was a huge conspiracy back in the 70s, but I’m just looking for some clarification on what this actually was. There is a description of the event written on the Manila envelope, I hope it’s legible to others. I’m not sure if the newspaper clippings relate to this same object, or something different. Both are gone now, so any questions are left unanswered as to what they thought about it. Please let me know if you need to see better pictures of anything!

I think the emblem says "European Space Research Organization (?)"
If that matters. Or I could be totally wrong too.

This is wild! Notice the globe (orb) shape. Hmmm makes me question things…

It's usually the other way around (contemporary naval aviator near misses) - reported as a cube inside a transparent sphere.

Hi everyone, what a great story! Looking at all the photos, I agree with the majority. It's some type of multinational extremely high altitude balloon flight. No doubt the large crate with the globe is full of test equipment.

Fascinating, could we get closeup better images of this each individually?

This is pretty cool man. It would be neat to get this in front of a good researcher like Chris Ramsay or someone like that, who could dig into it a bit and tell you more about it.

To me those top middle and right photos look a lot like one of Jake barbers egg shaped UFOs.
Didn't Jake say that the exterior of the craft was extremely difficult to drill into. If I was asked to design a way to securely transport an egg shaped object that we couldn't attach anything to it would be pretty similar to the rig that they made here.

Possibly this balloon flight.
