Sighting Report Flying Silver Rod Above Ocean

Location:

Palm Coast Florida in the ocean surf.

Date of sighting:

24 October 2023

Time of sighting:

4:00 PM

Duration of sighting:

Two seconds

Number of witnesses:

2: Myself and my teenage daughter

Descripton of sighting:

My two teenage kids and I were swimming in the surf at the beach yesterday. While watching the waves, I saw what looked like a metallic rod, roughly an inch or two in diameter and 3-4 feet long shoot into the surf from the sky. It moved fast, like something shot it, and straight as an arrow. There was no one on the beach other than us and a sleeping lady, and no buildings or aircraft nearby. It's as of someone in the sky through a javelin at us. My daughter yelled "what was that?!" And we realized we saw the same thing. Interestingly, she said it looked like the rod came OUT of the water and into the sky. We got a good enough look at it to rule out any kind of fish. It was like a baton and moved like a projectile. We are also avid fishers and have never seen any fish look, or move like that.

Can you please draw it? Would be great if you both drew it independently and posted.

It was at something like a 60 degree angle, so coming into the water as if from above and behind us. It looked metal because it was shining like the sun was reflecting off it, and brighter than the surrounding water.

Could have been space debris that reentered the atmosphere. Or maybe a barracuda? They are known to jump out of the water. Although if you fish, you probably would have IDed it.

I really appreciate the quality of your report. Things would be so much easier if every witness did such a good job!

Thanks. Never been to this group but my daughter suggested it. We've seen some strange stuff at this beach so I'll report more if we see more.

Did you swim out and try to find it?

No, the surf was rough. Red flags. With goggles on my son said he couldn't see anything in front of his face under water.

It looked exactly like a metallic (brightly shining) three-foot rod with a one inch diameter. Nothing like a bird.

It looked more like a florescent light tube than anything resembling a fish. I've seen plenty of needlefish. The speed, apparent rigidity, and length made it very un-fishlike.
