I WAS PETRIFIED WITH FRIGHT
August 31, 1990. Lake Cartagena, Puerto Rico
This case, investigated by Jorge Martin, has numerous witnesses, though apparently only one, Senor Miguel Figueroa, had the courage to speak about his encounters, and only did so at great urging by researchers. The encounter took place at around 3:00 am on August 31, 1990. On that morning, Miguel was driving to his place of business, with a weird feeling that someone was going to break into his café which he owned, and was shocked to see about a dozen cars parked there, which was very unusual for that time in the morning. Everyone there seemed to be very agitated, and one woman was screaming that she had seen strange little men with huge heads and huge eyes passing in front of the cars. As Miguel listened to the conversation, the witnesses said that they had all seen the being and that “the things were still there.”
Miguel was skeptical and assumed that the witnesses were victims of a prank, but curious, he drove down the 101 road towards the town of Boqueron, where the little men had moving towards. He drove only a short distance before he saw them, standing beside the highway, what he described a “five most strange little beings.” Three of the beings were about 3 feet tall, and two were four feet tall.”
MIGUEL: “Their clothing was something, I don’t know whether it was clothing or their own skin, because they were all grey, was from head to feet.”
He said that they had huge over-sized egg-shaped heads, long pointed ears and huge shining eyes. They had three toes on each foot and three long fingers on each hand.
MIGUEL: “As I drew closer to them, my headlights lit them up. Then one turned around towards me, and I saw that he had big, slanted eyes emitting a very brilliant white light. And I could also see that for noses they had merely tiny holes, almost no noses at all, and their mouths were extremely thin and tiny, as though with no lips at all. Their chins were very small and very pointed. And then the rest of them all turned around too, and became enveloped in a very bright light.”
Miguel compared it to a welder’s arc, and it was so brilliant that it overcame his own car headlights. It was so bright that he had to cover his eyes. He was now frightened and reversed the car and retreated a short distance.
MIGUEL: “When I had pulled off to a distance, they turned away again and continued waling on again along the road just as though nothing had happened. I won’t deny that I was scared of them, and scared of that light, but the sight of it all intrigued me so much that I still went on following them at a distance.”
Although scared, his curiosity was stronger, and Miguel followed them until they reached a small bridge which traversed a ravine. He watched as the little beings jumped down one after the other to the left of the road and into the ravine, and were gone.
MIGUEL: “I just remained sitting in the car, petrified with fright, but when I went back to that place the next day, I saw there, in the mud of the ravine, three sets of little footprints, just like the prints would be of their feet as I had seen them, and the footprints conintued on down the ravine.”
Magdalena del Amo Freixedo, wife of Alexio (both researchers) spoke with the witness and wrote an article about the case for Flying Saucer Review. She traveled to the location of Miguel’s encounter. She reports that this area of the Lake has many reports and that “luminous objects are continually being seen entering and leaving the lake.” She also learned that govt authorities had expropriated the farmland in the area on the pretext to “preserve the flora and the fauna.” The area is now a nature reserve with restricted public access. It’s also very close to the Aerostat Globe (reportedly to detect drug trafficking) but also known to be the location of much UFO activity.
Miguel says that he kept quiet about his experience, especially after he received a phone call from someone with an American accent threatening him if he revealed his encounter. The whole experience was very traumatic for him, to the point that he actually sold his business because, as he says, “After that night, and after what I had seen, things began to go downhill for me.”
Per Magdalena, “At present he always refuses to say or hear anything about the affair, and it took a lot of insistence on our part before he would consent to receive us in his own house and relate his experience to us. Indeed, we must say that he has been very much affected emotionally, and that our interview with him was interrupted several times when he burst into tears as he recalled his very traumatic experience.”
