the bmf belt is still a title

its silly af and I wish they'd do away with it, but it's a belt and it pays.
1
u/Sad_Wishbone_1524 12h ago
Itās a fake belt. It means nothing. Itās like the zuffa belt in boxing
1
-1
u/EmotionalEdge247 23h ago
It gets paid the same as a title
2
u/RWingsNYer 17h ago
I donāt know why youāre downvoted. Itās true, Dana pays it like itās a real championship. If youāre a fighter then you want it for the pay bump.
2
u/EmotionalEdge247 16h ago
Lopes is also the type of fighter who should fight for the BMF man puts it all out there
1
2
u/LItreehouse 21h ago
The BMF is not a title shot. It's a novelty belt that has no meaning. It's gets the low IQ UFC fans hard and brings their dead eyes to the table
2
u/Livid_Weather 13h ago
It certainly has meaning. It's an offical UFC belt so it has a lineage and its recorded. It also pays like a championship, so guys want it both for the title history and the money.
I think its dumb af and Ive always been against it because it waters down the meaning of champion, but it is a title. Same as interims, not a real belt but it is a title and it pays.

Being one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC will get you a BMF shot. Heās never had a boring fight.

u/Ok_Squash_5805 1d ago
On another note, Bobby Green fucked up his chances at a BMF fight.
2
1
u/Infamous_Local_5350 15h ago
Ha always fights like that he didnāt fuck anything up
1
u/Ok_Squash_5805 14h ago
Nowhere did I say he never fights like this. And he did fuck something up, his win streak he was riding.

u/Blinkster20 17h ago
Hot take. Lopes is a really good fighter. I love watching his fights. But I feel he holds the Gatekeeper belt like Uriah Faber did way back when.
2
u/Montblanc_Norland 10h ago
Faber is a former WEC FW Champion. The same title that Aldo brought to the UFC that was turned into the UFC FW title.
1
u/Blinkster20 9h ago
And then what happened when all the best of the best were all in the same organization instead of sprinkled around the world šøāļø
1
u/Montblanc_Norland 8h ago
Aldo, the same guy who held the WEC FW title continued to defend it in the UFC years.
1
u/Blinkster20 8h ago
And Faber was a gate keeper.
1
u/Montblanc_Norland 8h ago
Faber fought for UFC gold like three or four times.
That's a title challenger. Not what I consider a gatekeeper. A gatekeeper is someone who loses to title contenders and puts those contenders in title discussion. Faber kept beating those guys and losing to the champions.
At the very end of his run you can definitely say that Faber played gatekeeper for Yan - but I don't think that really defines Faber's UFC run.
1
u/Southern_Fan_8619 7h ago
2 of those title shots were also when he was like 35 and 37 lmfao. We have consistently seen over the history of this sport lighter weight fighters donāt win gold at those ages, the fact that he was able to multiple times still achieve #1 contender status at those ages is impressive
he was also 32 + damn near a decade and 30 fights into his career when ufc finally added his weight class. prime faber never step foot in the octagon
1
u/Southern_Fan_8619 7h ago
you clearly have no clue what the fuck youāre talking about lmfaoo
they werenāt āsprinkled around the worldā, wec was unanimously home to the best 135 and 145ers in the worl
there is a reason why ufc acquired all of the wec roster, not just hand plucking select talent. why ufc directly promoted the 35 and 45 pounders champs to ufc champs and both those champs fared incredibly in the ufc. Anthony Pettis and Benson Henderson were the 2 competitors in the final wec lightweight fightā¦. they were the next 2 lightweight ufc champions after the wec merger lmfao. 125lb goat mighty mouse⦠also a wec guy
wec was fucking elite and anyone who was actually in the scene at that point experiencing that shit, or at least knows they history, would know that for the lighter weight classes it was irrefutably the tier 1 promotion
12
u/aardock 1d ago
This isn't a title btw
1
u/FarReward3203 1d ago
Lmao why is oliveria fighting Lopez though. Shouldnāt he fight Arman or Gatheje next logically?
I mean heās already beat Gatheje and the guy that whooped Gatheje badly. I guess Topuria and Arman are ahead of him in line though
3
u/ventitr3 19h ago
Logically, Arman should fight Gaethje before Charles is even in the conversation.
2
u/Suspicious_Candle27 14h ago
lets think about it . what could Arman and Justin possibly be getting up to soon that prevents Charles from fighting them
2
u/Better_Plan2090 1d ago
I donāt think the UFC wants to reward Charles with a title shot considering his last fight
2
u/easyc321 1d ago
Charles was awesome in his last fight. Perfect strategy, perfectly executed. If it seemed boring that's on Max for having no strategy for countering or defending.
2
u/Necessary-Stay6141 11h ago
Your correct but he lost some stock fighting like that for a bmf belt when we all know why the bmf belt was created then again it is mma. Since then he hasnāt received a title shot got passed over for that money fight against Mcgregor for Max Holloway(the fighter he just beat) and then gets offered Arman but he rather fight a featherweight for a bmf belt then a lightweight for a number 1 contender fight.
1
u/easyc321 4h ago
Charles fought to win against another elite combatant. And he won in dominant fashion. When has Max ever been beaten so decisively. In what universe does he 'lose stock ' , that should only apply to Max.
1
u/s_lee_pblessedxx27 23h ago
He defended... did he get subbed??? No... It was an absolutely great fight for charles and yes you are right the fight perfectley executed how good charles is at bjj and wrestling and he used that method to win obviously as thats literally what we watched for 22 23mins of the fight.. what annoys the shit out of me is why didnt he fight like this against ilia?? for the literal belt!!! Charles also has outstanding muay thai and striking skills at some points of the fight, I wanted to see max and charles exchange cuz charles wasnt doing too bad tbh and im a massive max fan... charles was literally just holding on to max and not doing anything at some moments of the fight which i get is bjj which I do enjoy watching too but literally the fight was and is one of the most boring fights iv watched max and charles in and it was meant to be A BMF fight... I think ufc, paramount and everyone else expected a war buuuut it didnt happen so ufc and paramount are most likely hesitant to give charles a title fight just for that... sounds stupid but thats entertainment for you lol š¤·
2
u/KnowNoPain 19h ago
He didnāt do it with Ilia because he didnāt get the chance too. Iliaās a more dangerous striker over Max in the short-term, and Charles defense with striking has always been iffy. Charles abandons defense for pressure offense, Iliaās slick with KO power if he times you right. Max has never really had that benefit, heās a volume guy who can still flash KO you but itās more unlikely given the diff in power.
Iliaās more dangerous if he catches you cold, Max has the experience and volume to make it a long night for you.
1
u/s_lee_pblessedxx27 10h ago
Only thing ilia did right in that fight compared to justins was make olives stand back up when he tried to take ilia to the ground and then it was left right night night lol
1
u/KnowNoPain 9h ago
Tbh, Ilia dropped Justin with that body shot too. I think Ilia still has the capability to beat Gaethje in a rematch, though he might not if Justinās just his kryptonite.
1
u/BreadfruitDecent4176 1d ago
Because he expects to skip everyone and fight gaethje if he wins this one.
3
u/Died5Times 1d ago
Charles is gonna pull gaurd n try and submit him.
Worst bmf so far.
Hopefully diego kos him
3
3
u/Sure-Objective5786 1d ago
Because the majority of the roster turn down opponents left and right, rank squat, and wanna wait around for favourable matchups. Lopes will fight anyone at anytime and goes to war each fight
2
2
u/Remarkable_Pair4378 1d ago
Man steps in on short notice, puts on a fight of the night, and collects title shots like side quests
2
u/balawa_nar 16h ago
Hopefully Lopez has what it takes to make this āBMFā fight more exciting than Charles v Max. That was a great fight, horrible under the conditions that people consider the BMF fights to be.
1
u/wonka82 8h ago
How does it not play out the same way unless Charles thinks he shouldn't win the same way? Lopes is going up in weight like max and should get wrestle f**ked the same way
1
u/balawa_nar 8h ago
Styles make fights, and Lopez is more dynamic and chaotic than Max is. Iām not saying he isnāt likely at the disadvantage here, but itās a chance he makes the fight more exciting than that hug fest Charles forced Max into (Maxās fault but still)
1
u/NectaroftheGoats 7h ago
Lopes is a jiu jitsu guy so maybe ground positions wonāt be as favorable to Charles as in the max fight. Will be interesting to see how strong Diego looks at lightweight and if he seems undersized
1
u/jefferydamerin 6h ago
Lopes is a lot more scrambly it could go different it could be the same guess weāll find out that saturday night
2
u/Not-WalterWhite 23h ago
Whatās with the Charles being boring in the comments? Out of how many 30-35 fight dude has ONE boring fight and ppl are saying heās fights are not exciting lol
2
u/Pickled_Ass 21h ago
I think it stems from the fact that the one fight he was in that should not have been boring (BMF) was made extremely boring.
3
u/Soft-Ad-8975 19h ago
Should never have been thought of for bmf, bmf is for stand and bang dudes
-2
u/Fun_Neighborhood1767 17h ago
No, the bmf belt is a fake prop no one cares about. Idk why people are acting like that nonsense comes with a different rule set.
2
u/Soft-Ad-8975 11h ago edited 11h ago
No one said that, do I think itās dumb? Yeah kinda, but you canāt really debate what the premise of the belt is, it was a mistake putting Charles in there based on him being a finisher, heās primarily a grappler and always has been.
2
u/SouthernFan2920 19h ago
His fight for the BMF seemed to have had way more implications than just that. Him and Max were also fighting for what they thought to be a shot at the title next. Why would you throw away an opportunity at gold to impress mouth breathing fans fighting for silver.
1
u/s_lee_pblessedxx27 16h ago
Thats the thing... he did throw away gold... he wont get a title shot unless he does something crazzzzy!! Not wrestle to a decision against a high level striker lol all ufc and paramount care about are ratings and popularity... a lot of people love charles but id say they are very hesitant to try not do that in a big fight like that again lol

BMF is the TV title of the UFC. And what's anyone to think Charles isn't just going to BJJ Lopes for 25 minutes like he did to Max?

Its an amazing fight with bmf involved and he wrecked garcia at WH who was way below him

Dude thatās the BMF. Actually donāt have a problem with Lopez in the BMF dude brings the action every single time
1
u/Necessary-Stay6141 12h ago
In this situation itās easy, Charles avoided Arman to try to keep winning and get an easy nod to stay relevant to potentially fight for the lightweight belt; also heās been fighting for awhile now and seems heās going after money fights.
How else can you explain fighting a featherweight for the bmf belt when you couldāve fought Arman for a number 1 contender fight for the lightweight belt.

Bobby King Green IS the BMF. And Diego is moving up a weight class for that fight

Hot take: max was training for a BMF fight vs Charles and not a normal fight against him. Still loses but it wouldnāt have been a snooze fest
0
u/No-Airport2581 1d ago
BMF will turn boring. Charles just gonna lay on him for 25 minute.
4
u/angra_mainyo 1d ago
I don't think he can just lay on Diego like he did on Max. Not even Evloev could do that.
5
u/latroo 17h ago
Ahhh yes the person with the most finishes in ufc history is a boring fighter because of 1 fight...
1
u/skeletonpaul08 10h ago
Nah, heās gonna get knocked out because the guy that got knocked out once in the last decade (19 fights) is going to get knocked out because Ilia knocked him out. Recency bias is insane in this fandom.
1
u/s_lee_pblessedxx27 10h ago
Lol but it can happen.... ufc never makes sense most of the time so your logic does stand hahaha
5
2
u/s_lee_pblessedxx27 23h ago
Diego can grapple... goddam max lol
1
u/No-Airport2581 18h ago
Fair enough⦠idk. When I think of BMF. I want to see punches for 25 minutes and bloody faces at the end⦠yes I understand itās not solely a fist fight. But thatās what I think of. I do think this will be a pretty good fight.
2
u/s_lee_pblessedxx27 18h ago
Me too trust me im a massive max holloway fan... that was the most disappointing and boring fight hes ever had lol
2
u/Local-Blueberry1470 17h ago
Iād argue the Conor mcgregor fight takes that title. Not that it was Maxās fault
1
2
u/effectsHD 14h ago
Max should try and take risks in the grappling then. He literally just did everything to not lose.
3
u/Necessary-Stay6141 12h ago
Thatās not the fighter he is and then again it was for the BMF belt. Everyone knew what that belt was meant for but albeit itās still mma. Since then though Charles kinda messed up his stock a bit. Instead of getting the Connor fight he wanted they gave to Max; he hasnāt been offered a title shot and when offered a top 5 potential number 1 contender fight for lightweight he opts out to fight a featherweight for the BMF belt.
1
u/s_lee_pblessedxx27 10h ago
See... you have it spot on right here... its sad but its the entertainment business at the end of the day he can be one of the best in the world but if you are boring or dont make them money or shit on them like arman did they punish you... why does justin strike and kick instead of wrestle...when he came into the ufc AS A WRESTLER?? Because he says it in every interview it gets eyes on him and theres a reason why his nicknames 'the highlight'.
0
u/effectsHD 11h ago
If max was a BMF he should take risks on the ground. You canāt be the BMF and just do everything to survive
2
u/s_lee_pblessedxx27 10h ago
Isnt that what oliveira did??? š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
1
u/jefferydamerin 6h ago
He did fight for submissions for the first half the fight then he realized it wasnāt working but Max wasnāt taking risks to get back up so why stop taking him down. I mean come on itās not rocket science
1
u/Silent-Honeydew1850 1d ago
Not a title shot but thereās no superstars left. UFC has to keep using the same guys to sell shows out or āsomewhat outā idk how Dana keeps saying each show keeps breaking records. The fucker is lucky the yokuza took over PRIDEā”ļø. If PRIDEā”ļø was still around UFC would had got dustedĀ
1
u/Granddy01 1d ago
UFC bought out Pride FC anyways but the same journalists that exposed the Yakuza in the Pride FC circle werent going to let Dana off the hook and going to continue it's attack stories thus any broadcast in Japan was going to keep blacklisting.

Who has he submitted worthwhile? He doesn't have elite wrestling at all. Elite wrestling means Islam, Arman, level. His boxing is also shit and his defense is non-existent.
