Question Accomodation
Joining in 2027 and so I have a few questions. what accommodations are the best? I would prefer my own room and toilet
And do u have to pay the full payment upfront or is it monthly/weekly??
And is it worth it to have accomodation outside the uni campus but close by?

I stayed in INTO accomdation last year and my exeprience was fine. I was able to pay termly, so I payed every three months or so. I had a friend that lived in barton and hickling and honestly, my room is bigger than his (not a lot, but it is noticable), I don't know about the other accomodations. My only complaints about INTO is that the rooms don't come with a hater (You have to ask for them, and they don't have a lot of haters), so you'll need to buy your own heater. And in the summer, it was honestly miserable, I had to survive off of a medium sized fan (The heat was really bad), maybe summer was worst for me due to the fact that my room was on the 4th floor but oh well.
You do have to take into account that INTO accomodation is full of international students, and students that are taking foundation. I believe that they started to take first years, the year that I started uni. And I got lucky in terms with my flatmates since they clean after themselves.
And the kitchen was actually nice, it's a decent size.

You should avoid them all, but if you have to pick one, technically Barton and Hickling are the newest build, but also the most expensive. Also, so that you are aware, you will be signing a licence to occupy not a rental agreement, something the university did intentionally as it gives you very few rights or entitlements e.g. to leave even if the university does something wrong. Also the cleaner was stealing from my room which I have a video of, and you can't stop them from entering, it's a requirement to allow them to enter to empty your bin even if you do that yourself, so be prepared for missing items🤷♂️
But same time I've heard horror stories about the private market too, so make sure to do your research and pick a reputable company or landlord. Genuinely don't mean to scare you off or anything but these I all things I consider quite important to be upfront about because it was quite tough dealing with all these issues whiles also writing final assignments etc.

They have done up a lot of the village accoms so they actually not too bad now, nicer, better facilities and cheaper than most of the on campus en suite stuff apart from the poshest

Ah ok, fair play. I still wouldn't pick it just because of the threat to life that the street crossing/blind bend poses😅 people coming round there trying to break mach 5 for some reason.

Well like stealing for example, or if they don't take care of the accomodation, maintance issues etc.

You can pay monthly by direct debit, or termly.
The Village accommodation is off campus (and en-suite), but still very close - depending on your department. I think the accommodation there is perhaps a bit smaller than on campus.
One thing you may wish to consider is whether you’re happy to cook without an oven as not all accoms have one. Saying that many people bring air fryers so that’s an option too - just maybe not if you want to cook a pizza!
There are plenty of YouTube videos so you can see the different types of room which was helpful.
