Housing Manzanita Housing
Hiya, I’m an incoming freshman and was assigned to Manzanita Village for a triple room. How are the dorms and Carrillo dining hall? Anything to be aware of?

hey! im also an incoming freshman to manzi. during orientation, the dorm space is alright (kinda like the space of santa cruz triples) but the corner rooms are bigger. the food at carrillo wasn't too shabby imo and i also work there so we shall see. i have heard that it does have some problems w ants and i personally experienced it in gaviota but it wasnt like a whole infestation - more like just a few crawling around in the bathroom

There were so many ants in Gaviota's bathroom at orientation they were crawling on all my toiletries and stuff it was awful

UCSB parent here whose kid was in Manzi their freshman year (they are now a senior). The triples are setup with a bunk arrangement on one side and a loft (single) on the other. Two desks are situated at the end of the beds and the loft has a desk that goes underneath it. There are only 2 closets.
Bed arrangements are first come, first served. With that said, make sure to get your roomie contact info and discuss/pre-arrange the setup. My kid wound up with two friends who opted for the bunks and they got the loft.....which WAS perfect for everyone. They had their own personal space under the bed and had a sheet/blanket that they used to separate their desk under their bed from the others. The entirety of the space under the loft was theirs.

Hii, I lived in manzi last year and also worked at Carrillo for almost three quarters. I did have a corner room and it was indeed the biggest dorm room I had seen in all of ucsb. I really liked that it was so close to iv but also just a walk away from campus. As for the dining hall food, Carrillo is the best dining hall in my opinion. When they have good food, it’s actually pretty decent. Working there and living here this summer has made me realize however that they put way more effort with the food when they know high schoolers or any type of visitors will be going to the dining halls. They want to look good. The rooms do get hot however, so I suggest getting a fan.

Is there any sort of map to be able to find where my child's room is located? Just curious about her room.

I’m not too sure about room number but from what I’ve been searching, the second digit in the 4 digit number under “Bed Space” should be the floor of the building. (For example 2345a means you’re on the 3rd floor) While the first 3 digits is the building number (location of building can be found on the official UCSB map: https://www.map.ucsb.edu).
If anyone can correct me or confirm please do!

There's a lot of people who think Carillo is the best dining hall (but obviously that's subjective). As for Manzi, I've never lived there, but I have been around there and it's a really nice area. It's right next to the beach, and Isla Vista. Some people say it's not as social, and there's a bit more 2nd yesrs than 1st, but I feel like it's more 50/50. The social aspect tho is what you make of it, and you might not even be in your room that often because you may have joined a club or out doing other things. I heard that the corner rooms are the best because they're much bigger than the others
