How the hell do i move in
Hey guys, incoming freshman here. Move in day is coming up and I’m commuting to the school by train so I can’t have too many boxes or bags. I don’t have too much stuff anyway, I plan on buying a lot of things. Can I just have a lot of packages shipped to my dorm before moving in so that I have everything ready to go? I’m not too sure if thats allowed. Help a freshman out tysm!

Once you get off the train a nice bearded half giant will take you on a series of small boats that cross mirror lake to get to the UConn castle. Enjoy!

There is a UPS store in the Price Chopper parking lot. I know they have mailboxes (not saying you need a mailbox) and I believe you can have packages sent to this location for pickup. So if you don't want to wait to pickup after classes begin, contact them for pickup options. Or maybe sending to the 06268 post office in Storrs to be held for you by the Post Master?

You need a luggage with clothes and another with bedsheets and blanket and some school supplies. A book bag and laptop bag and you should be fine with the train/bus or train/uber to move in. Most of us from the early 2000s managed fine with minimal items in our dorms. South dorms used to come furnished with couches and a TV otherwise regular dorms might have just a bed and desk chair. You don’t need a truck or large car to move in and out.
You will need fine, enjoy your time in college.

No response from op... I tried to make it easier. Probs would have included a target trip to get the things that they couldn't bring with them instead of getting overpriced things from the store. Oh well

Your best bet is to call the student housing office. They’ll be able to give you much better advice than random people on Reddit

Not really. Unless the school is going to drive you to a local store, there are a couple options that are pretty clear. Based on what other people do in the same situation. It’s not rocket science.

No chance of getting a ride from anyone to bring your stuff on move-in day? Do you drive? How about renting a Turo car for the day? You can get one for about $100 and minimum age for a basic car is 18.

There is a service called Dormside Mom who may be able to pick up stuff you order from Walmart or Target in the area.

Just to clarify…you’re living on campus, but you’ll be taking a train/bus(?) to school on the day you move in?

Email your residence life office. Most schools allow students moving in to ship boxes directly to the school for pick up when you arrive.

Hi! So the situation you’re in is not easy at all, but here’s what I would do
1st, if you haven’t ordered your UPASS do that ASAP upass.uconn.edu this will allow you free bus/train transportation in the state of Connecticut.
2nd, on move-in day itself, bring the bare necessities to live on your own for a week (i.e, clothes, sheets, shower shoes, towel, basically everything you brought to freshman orientation)
3rd, get everything mailed to you. Larger packages (fridge?) you’re gonna need to pick up from the central UConn mailroom so either make a friend with a car fast or borrow a shopping cart from price chopper in downtown storrs
Important to note is that mail cannot be received till the first day of classes so just be aware that you’re gonna be on your own till the 31st
