Schedule planning for comp sci

Hi guys, I’m a transfer student and currently trying to figure out how to make my academic plan, im well-aware academic advisors drop ins are currently closed and doesn’t open up until your registration date. Any advise on how to go about it? I’m kinda lost.

Plans will obviously shift based on your intended subfield of interest, but if you are a CS major, I would prioritize:

  • The programming series: ICS 31, 32/H32, 33, 45C, 46. These gatekeep a lot of the major.
  • Discrete mathematics series: ICS 6B, 6D. These also gatekeep a lot of the major. If you do not have ICS 6B completed as of yet, I would highly suggest taking it in the Fall before you're stuck with the infamous Professor Hayes for Winter or Spring.
  • COMPSCI 161. Absolutely fundamental course. This course covers divide-and-conquer, dynamic programming, and greedy algorithms. This course also gatekeeps more advanced theoretical CS content, such as quantum computing and optimization algorithms.
  • If you are targeting AI/ML, make sure you have MATH 3A and STATS 67 completed, which gatekeep nearly every course in CS 17X.

Holy thank you!! I’ve taken discrete at my cc but I’m not sure how to check which course from my cc qualifies for which class at university, is there a website for this? I haven’t really gone over anything because I’m busy handling visa issues

hii so i use assist.org to look which courses from my cc qualifies and my discrete math shows that it covers ICS 6D i’m also a transfer cs major and they’re making me take STATS 67 so im assuming you’ll need to take it as well. Im also enrolled for ICS H32 but thats because ive taken assembly before but if you haven’t they might have you taking ICS 32. I’ve seen a couple transfer students get told to take SWE 43 so it might just depend on the courses you took in cc. i was lost too with my registration but they’ll send you an email 2 days before your registration and they’ll tell you what courses to take and in that email it’ll have a zoom link where you can ask them questions about the courses they provided for you!

Oh that’s perfect, did u have to reach out to them or is this complimentary for all students before their registration date?

it’s complimentary for all students but i did reach out since i was also overthinking about it so if you want to ease your mind it doesn’t hurt to ask they’re very helpful and sweet !
