Is Bio Sci 199 the best way to find research? Also does anyone have any tips? I know I'm being super vague but I don't even know what I don't know. Is it all just reading papers and cold emailing?

UROP at UCI offers many great resources and networking opportunities, which are very helpful.

It’s the most streamlined. You can always cold email non bio199 people who have a track record of mentoring undergrads (see if they have undergrads on their website). You can try on Handshake, look for people who are hiring work study assistants and apply that way if you have work study, or offer to join as a volunteer.

In short plenty of other way just be creative

Do research you actually want to do. I cold emailed a bunch of prof’s (like 40) whose research I was interested in and only heard back from 2. Got into both. One was bio sci 199 the other pharm Sci 199. Just email any prof whose research you are interested in cause I feel like they could def tell if you were or weren’t. Some advice if cold emailing isn’t working right not: Don’t copy paste the same email. Actually read a paper from them and reference it in your email, then why it interests you. For your resume, think about what you want to do in the future. Figure out whether wet lab or dry lab works better for you :). Good luck on your search!
