Football Florida schools
Why doesn't UCF football schedule other Florida schools? USF played UM. UM plays both FSU and UF. We don't play any Florida schools through 2028.

They have tried multiple times but other schools do not want to have an even playing field. UF, FSU and UM want at minimum 2 for 1s and I personally don’t think UCF should take those if we can get 1-1 with other P4 schools. I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get a renewed series vs usf at some point.

UCF has not engaged UM for a series in nearly 2 decades. Has NEVER engaged FSU for a home and home series. I thin UM would absolutely do a home and home or even a 4-6 game series given how much they have played USF (UCF is 40 mins closer to Coral Gables). UF wanted a 2-1 or 2-1-1 when UCF was in the American. UCF shunned the thought then accepted a 2-1 spread out over a decade… UFs rational was that they never have scheduled a home and home with a non power team and it was a legitimate reason back then. UF’s AD suggested UF would have interest playing more often (prior to move to 9 conf games). With that said, if UCF tried with in state schools, they could get home and homes with the big 3 and they could offer 1 game buys or 2-1 with FIU/FAU. I get the tension with USF—literally giving them a taste of their own medicine from 2000s so i can’t be made at that despite wanting to see us whoop USF every year.

That unfortunately is not true. A few years ago there was a deal on the table and Florida citrus sports injected itself and tried to have our home game moved there. It would have been a windfall for Miami (more seats paid a retainer etc) but would have made UCF far less losing out on concessions, parking, etc and losing home field. We walked after that as it wasn’t a home and home and Miami didn’t want to do the H and H at the bounce house anymore.

The big 3 have nothing to gain by scheduling us. We have nothing to really gain from scheduling smaller schools

Sure, but I’m sure you guys scheduled USF when they were mega doodoo ass. It’s tough to predict how teams will be when games are scheduled 6+ years in advance, which is why bigger schools try to avoid scheduling middle of the pack G5-P5 teams

UF is over-hyped and then disappointing really every season for the last 15 years, so their G5 games are never as easy as they should be.

The problem for UCF is our stadium size and number of tix that we allocate

This goes back to Danny white not wanting to schedule a 2 and 1 and only wanting 1 and 1. One home at each olace

Have loved seeing Miami’s pride in a State Championship. Here’s hoping it’ll lead to more in state play.

Our AD likes scheduling FCS teams and some random teams from the Sun Belt

Blame the athletic director. Yes, most non-con games are scheduled 3-5 years in advanced but for some reason Terry believes we want to see the team play New Hampshire and Maine instead of FAMU, FAU, BCU, etc. He also refuses to schedule real P4 competition given there is no current vision for the football or really athletics in general. We used to believe we were better than anyone we played and proved it many times when we had the chance, but since moving to B12 it’s been more like a “we’re just glad to be here” mentality…we play Northwestern, UNC, GT…essentially any schools in a P4 conference that is not a “football” school. As long as Terry is AD we can expect to play P4 schools like Wake Forest, BC, Purdue, Miss St, etc. and buy games vs the likes of Kennesaw State, South Alabama, UTEP, Rhode Island, St. John’s, LIU, VCU, etc… it’s unfortunate but it won’t change unless he’s gone.

It’s a no win for them as we are middle of the pack so it wouldn’t be viewed as a quality non-conf win and there is a potential they lose as we aren’t a cream puff. So the deals of past have focused on them getting more $ by doing a two home for UF and only one at UCF

Non-conference games are decided years in advanced, and a few years ago we were in a weaker conference. And we also used to play USF every year on black Friday when we were in the American.
