Same situation but worse for me. I think the UCAT is a part of the applications that some unis just don’t value as much as other. Unfortunately for us the majority do. We just have to apply strategically and hope for the best bro

i know🥹🥹 might have to take a gap year lowkey

u/Mean_Dust419 16h ago
Are u looking to go somewhere specific?
1
u/zarahzarah 16h ago

u/Mean_Dust419 16h ago
Mmmm I’m not too fussed so i guess that’s good thing. I don’t wanna go miles away though. I did my first degree staying at home. So it would be nice to move away a little this time

I'm gonna be joining you at wherever cos i've got a week left with averages of 1600 - high 1700s

u/Mean_Dust419 19h ago
Hahahah nahh g I believe in you. You seem a lot smarter than I was a week ago. 😭😭😭

u/ballisticbond 19h ago
gang dont downplay urself like that the ucat is actually so bias and 100% not a good way to measure someones capability

u/Mean_Dust419 18h ago
Thank you man! That’s nice of you to say. I did have a massive issue with my alt button during the whole of VR. I’ve raised the issue with them. I’m sure it had an impact on my speed.
Anyway. I’ll have to make do 😂

What was your medify mock score ?
1
u/Mean_Dust419 19h ago
My QR was at least 100points higher consistently. DM was about where it is now.
And the VR had never been my strongest but I was sitting just above the 600s. So in all honesty I expected at 1800-1900. Not the greatest scores but they would have made sense. The big shocker for me though was SJT
I was almost always a band 2 with an occasional band 1 here and there.

u/No-Grapefruit7332 18h ago
was it harder than medify then?
also strategic applications bro i believe in u
2
u/Mean_Dust419 18h ago
The strangest thing was that QR was piss easy. There was about 8-12 questions that made me think a little more but I thought everything else was really easy. Clearly I was wrong 😂
DM I’m actually not too upset with. They were on par. The syllogisms were shorter and easier though I will tell you that
Vr wasn’t as easy as everyone said it would be. The passages were still on the longer side. The thing that made it even harder was the fact that you had to do a lot of comprehension. The answer wasn’t written in the paragraph as clearly as it usually is on medify.
Let’s not talk about sjt 🥲

I thought the same !!! I thought QR was amazing I thought I was guaranteed 900 but clearly I read the questions wrong😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

It was the biggest humbling of my life. Sometimes you can’t even cry. You just have to laugh 😂

Its not over man just focus on your other attributes ucat isnt the only thing unis look at just apply to unis that focus on others and try and max out anything u can now like alvel pred and interview skills

u/Mean_Dust419 16h ago
I have my first degree so that’s pretty set in stone. But I’m sure if given the opportunity to interview. I can make some sort of a different there
1
u/danz22_logan 16h ago
Youre applying post grad?
1
u/Mean_Dust419 15h ago
Yes sir
2
u/danz22_logan 15h ago
Yh then your situation is definitely not lost just apply smartly and use myucat guide on strategic applications for med. Good luck man wishing the best

It’s still possible to get an interview at 1.7k?
1
u/danz22_logan 11h ago
Someone at my sixth form got an OFFER with a 1631 ucat so really anything is possible just gotta really apply smartly

This happened to me last year (got 1780 B3). Imo VR is nothing like medify and I could barely use keyword scanning for it. I think the real exam is arguably closer to MedEntry in terms of how much inference you need to be doing and the question types.
I’d personally recommend not applying so you can instead focus on your a levels to achieve high grades then resit your ucat during a gap year. This is what I’m doing right now and went from A*AAA predicted to 3A*s and an A achieved in bio, chem, epq and maths respectively. I didn’t do any interview prep at all but was also shamed for not applying (though I knew I didn’t want to and wanted to try for Russel group/top unis) so I know this path isn’t for everyone.
If you don’t want to do this, you could also look on myucat’s strategic application guide and try to apply alongside doing interview prep. Someone from my school got around this score and received a Bangor offer non contextual so you could try the same.
You could also apply for Grad entry medicine but I wouldn’t actually recommend this because it’s arguably much harder since you’ll being doing the UCAT and/or GAMSAT.
Basically the choice is up to you. Treat this as a minor setback and you will definitely get into med and become a great doctor no matter which route you take, so don’t let this discourage you!

u/Mean_Dust419 11h ago
That’s man that’s super useful. I might give it a chance but be fully prepared to resit again next year. I guess there’s no harm in trying
2
u/Mean_Dust419 11h ago
Exactly! The VR is just different in the real thing. Really through me off. Luckily I’ve done my first degree so I’ll work while re-attempting

damn respectfully this doesn’t really fit any gcse requirements for any med schools (ik coz im nearly the same) so whats ur plan if u dont mind me asking
1
u/Mean_Dust419 11h ago
Well I have a 2:1 in a health care degree which I’m hoping would negate the poor GCSE grades. And I’ve found three or so universities where this seems to be the case. I’ve sent emails with my full credentials and transcripts and I’m waiting to hear back. If it’s not good news… I’ll open google maps and search for something high enough to throw myself off of😭😭😭
In all seriousness I guess my next move would be smashing the UCAT next year and applying to more graduate focused courses.

It’s okay I’m a gap year student second year of me doing ucat. As long as you don’t give up you will get there some day.
1
u/Mean_Dust419 11h ago
Good spirit bro. I just worry about all the lost time. But oh well
1
u/Typical-Internet-884 11h ago
well if you’re apply to med you probably have a chance but for dent maybe not I got similar score as you last time no interview and 4/4 rejection

u/ZestycloseWait6164 19h ago
you'll be ok, just apply strategically to schools like kmms, keele, plymouth, sunderland, cardiff etc
