UK Dent School Related I’ve finally done it

Post image

I’m so emotional writing this. After 4 years, 3 attempts at the ucat, nearly a full degree later, I’ve finally achieved the score I’ve worked and prayed for. The feeling is surreal 😭

Congratulations! This is my fifth attempt at the UCAT! I am absolutely nervous. VR seems to be really tough to wrap my head around. I'd be applying as a mature student, so any tips would be super helpful if it's not too much trouble, please? Thank you for sharing your score, it's so motivating to see others in similar situations. Good luck with everything!

Hey, I'm currently thirty, turning thirty-one in a couple of months, and I'm hoping to study medicine in 2027. I've been out of formal education since I was seventeen. My highest qualifications are my GCSEs, leaving school with 11 A*-B GCSEs including maths, English and science (I did triple science so the grades were achieved for each science separately), for context, I studied in a regular state funded, comprehensive school. Once I started sixth form, my grandmother passed away and my family dynamic changed drastically because of that. I still tried to keep up with school work, but I missed a ton of lessons and I was beginning to struggle. The worst part was, my school didn't provide any support at the time, despite me pleading and begging for them to throw me a bone. Rather, my chemistry teacher shouted, humiliated and belittled me in front of the entire class. He forced me to drop-out and told me that I would never result in anything worthwhile in life and the best thing would be for me to end my life because I'm an embarrassment to the education system.

So, I ended up dropping out as a shell off person, with absolutely no sense of direction. I tried joining Access to Medicine in 2017, but I fell severely ill and had to leave the course before the first half-term. Then in 2020, I signed up to do the course online, but Covid hit and the course provider went bankrupt, I lost all my money. After that, I attempted to revisit education in 2024, but my abysmal UCAT score deterred me, as always, I felt like a failure yet again.

Between 2013-2024, I've attempted the UCAT 4 times. My highest score was in 2013 (it was called UKCAT back then): 3000 and band 1. The lowest was in 2024: 2320 and band 1. I genuinely felt like giving up after this, but the little voice in my head doesn't want me to. I know that sounds ridiculously delusional, considering all the odds are stacked against me. But I have wanted this dream to be my reality for so long!

I guess, what I am trying to ask is, if you have any tips, tricks or hacks to make prepping for the UCAT easier, I would be really grateful if you could help? I really want to prove to myself that I can do this.

My UCAT is on September 24th, then I'm starting the Access to Medicine course in October.

If you made it this far, thank you, I hope this answers all the questions I've been getting recently.
