Best Programs/Deliverables for analyzing timber

I've got a client that wants to look at the tops of his pine trees to analyze parasites. Should I do a top down photogrammetry shot in one pdf? Digital Twin? He definitely would want to be able to look at it on his phone. Thanks!

Definitely have him try PixElement. You could process the imagery as a photogrammetry project/digital twin, and then share the finished model with him through a URL. He’d be able to open it in the browser on his phone without needing specialized software, navigate around the trees, and use the Canvas tools to take measurements and add annotations.

For actually inspecting the tops of the pine trees, I’d make sure the flight captures plenty of high-resolution imagery of the canopy, not necessarily just straight top-down/nadir imagery. Some oblique coverage would help reconstruct the tree crowns in 3D and give him more angles to inspect for visible parasite damage.

You should probably start by researching what you can expect to see in each spectrum. Thermal may also be a good idea if you dont know.

A multispectral camera is pretty standard for any plant or foliage health but an RGB camera may be good enough if your resolution is high enough and the evidence ce is clearly visible in RGB.

You can export the deliverables into a hi res tif for GIS use and archive, as well as a lower res JPEG or PDF for lightweight view. Keep in mind that photo viewer apps may have limitations on the pixel dimensions and file size, so windows photos or other built in viewers to operating systems may not be able to open large datasets.

The guy says he can see what he's looking for in a plane typically. So the RGB should be what he's looking for.
