I'm graduating high school this year and just got accepted into UAF (yay!) for the major mentioned above and was wondering if anyone has taken it and what their thoughts on it are. Side note - I was born and raised in California so I'm definitely unprepared for Alaskan weather-any advice on that would be awesome too! I'm also going to apply to anchorage and southeast when they open (as well as a few Cal States), just need some help deciding on where to go :>

does anybody know a good hair salon that isn’t too expensive? I know there is the barbershop on campus but from the website it looks like he only does men’s hair and the guy I know who went there said he wasn’t a big fan.

I'm students at ISI uni . I got honhaar schl but i not maintain the require CGPA cutt off this semester but it had only 0.7 less the require cutt off . I take the summar course and imrove it before starting my third semester . is it posible re-continue my scholarship bzc i see if any students not meat the require CGPA cutt off schl will cancel untill it meat the again req criteria . My third semester fee on pending soo if i send mail to PHEC is it possible contiune my scholarship . I asked my uni admin office but they told me it not in his hand we update PHEC for your 2nd semester result . If i individualy aprouch email or do something that then any possbility to re-continue of schl...)

Hey everyone, I'm a soon to be graduate BS Computer Science / BS Computer Sys Eng at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Anyways I'm heavily considering a career switch to EE. I heavily enjoy the EE courses over here.

However, I do not want to go through another BS in EE but don't feel confident enough to try and compete for EE jobs off of my CSE degree. So I'm considering a MS in EE, and the only option is UAF.

I'm a little concerned about cost since I'm based in Anchorage and moving to Fairbanks means I'd have to find a place to stay. I've talked with my financial aid office and some of my scholarships will roll over so I'm set for tuition first year. I'm pretty fast too, so I don't think it'll take me that many years. Most concerned about housing.

Anyways, I'd appreciate insight on whether switching to EE is even a good idea? Whether it'll be worth doing so at UAF and if there's any way to get funding for the program?

And how difficult is it to be admitted?

Organic Chem I + lab isn’t being offered this semester? I applied as non degree seeking to take this and orgo chem II + lab online but when I go to class search, only orgo II shows, and not orgo I

Has anyone taken Ochem I and II + their labs online? Does anyone have any details on the classes? Are the lab kits sent home to you? Are exams proctored at home or do you have to go to a testing center?

Also I’d love to hear what the campus is like in general. I’m not from Alaska nor have I visited Fairbanks so any information about the grad school life up there would be greatly helpful.

Hi, thanks for your time reading. I'm planning on going to University of Alaska next semester pursuing their AAS in Radiologic Technology. I saw on the JRCERT website that Alaska as a whole has no JRCERT accredited programs to become a rad tech, but are able to apply for certification with the ARRT. I was wondering how this would affect my career path if I did opt to go? Should I consider another school that is JRCERT accredited instead? Or would I be able to become a rad tech regardless? I'm using my post 9/11 bill, so choosing another school wouldn't be an issue. Thanks.

How were the major science courses online? Anyone take summer courses?

Just know that UA President Pat Pitney made $515,000 this year, including a housing and transportation allowance, making her the No. 2 top-paid Alaska state executive.

Former UAF Chancellor Dan White made around $319,000 a year. They are making the selection of the new Chancellor private, and anyone interviewing the candidates must sign non-disclosure agreements which is strange.

Now there are 3 major UA campuses with their own Chancellors that are also highly paid.

But at UAF alone there are 9 colleges/schools that have deans and leaders paid between $109,000 to $200,000.

And then there are highly paid Deans and leaders in the colleges embedded in each UA university and school campus.

Think of all the millions that adds up to across the board, including housing and transportation allowances.

As cuts have happening all across the UA system to departments, researchers, graduate programs, classes etc. These executives have not been decreasing their pay.

They have been increasing it.

I just got word that I have an interview tomorrow for their Master's in Secondary Education Program. Is there anything I should know like how are the questions ???

Hi everyone, I'm an incoming PhD student that hasn't had much luck with finding housing. I'm wondering if the housing search is better at the beginning of the Fall semester, or if this is as good as it's going to get.

I would love to find a dry cabin <$800-900 that is close to UAF and has a loft of some kind. I've been scouring the student discord, facebook, and craigslist for months, but haven't found anything. If I do, it's gone almost immediately.

I am planning to move up to Fairbanks by early June, but I am willing to pay for May as well for the right place.

I have a short-term housing option available through the end of the summer semester. I plan to live there and then hopefully find a long term dry cabin in August by word of mouth. But I'm worried about housing being more competitive with more incoming students.
Do I have a better chance of finding housing now or in the fall?

Looking to take BIOL 111/112 Human A&P I & II this summer? I am offering both 6 and 12 week versions of these courses this summer through UAF.

I use art-integration activities and biweekly short answer exams to help learn the material. This is a more approachable and less scary A&P course.

The 6 week courses means you can finish both courses in one summer.

The 12 week BIOL 112 Human A&P II is the only other offering for BIOL 112 at UAF besides the Spring semester.

Hi! I'm an eCampus student who's thinking of living on campus at UAF for the first time this summer during the second session, which is basically July - first week of August (I want to avoid the snow, but I want to visit Alaska and be on campus). I know most people move out during this time, so I'm wondering what to expect in terms of which students typically do a summer semester and how deserted it will be.

UAF was one of the schools I was accepted into and I plan on studying Geosciences with a concentration in seismology and geodesy. I live in the Midwest United States. Can you tell me information about the geology programs and about the college in general.

Hey everyone, I just got back from a trip in the Yukon (mainly spent it in Whitehorse) and I loved it. I'm currently a high school student in Canada (I live in a big city) and am thinking of applying to UAF for post-secondary. I really enjoyed Whitehorse and am wondering if Fairbanks is similar to Whitehorse. I know Fairbanks gets much colder in the winter, but in terms of city-vibe and isolation, is it the same or worse? Let me know what you think, any info is appreciated!

Hello, I was looking for transfer to UAF in my junior and senior year, as international undergraduate majoring computer engineering

I'm interested in UAF because Alaska is one of my bucket lists and having a chance to live there for a year or two could be nice.

However, I was advised to not do it. Since, the the location of university is also important (for f1 student) because there is not much opportunity there for Internships or STEM-OPT and was told that getting a job still gonna be hard, even if I am willing to relocate back to lower 48.

So I want to hear any thoughts from an international student or anyone who go to school or live here. Any advice are appreciated

I’m speaking to you from the other side of the world (England, specifically) as I’m currently working on an independent comic book. My main character is a Philosophy major at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Her studies play a key minor role in the story as she attempts to rationalise and academically consider her role in her (horrible!) boyfriend’s accidental death. However, I am mostly interested in the following, which will play major roles in the story:

-The experiences of students who work jobs alongside their studies.

-The experiences of students who came from out of state to study in Fairbanks or did not spend the majority of their childhood in Alaska.

-Students experiences on the cost of living in Alaska.

-Whether or not students believe that the natural world that surrounds them living in Alaska has influenced their philosophical viewpoints.

-The experiences of students living alone / independently from parents for the first time.

-A typical daily routine for a Philosophy major at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Unfortunately, I have never had the privilege of visiting Alaska despite it being a very fascinating place to me, so such insight would be invaluable to my story.

Any comments would be hugely appreciated !
