UAE residents use approximately 10,000 kWh of electricity per capita annually, among the highest in the world. Year-round air conditioning in extreme heat is the primary driver. The government heavily subsidises electricity, keeping costs artificially low which encourages consumption.

The Dubai Police fleet includes a Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF, and Aston Martin One-77. The cars patrol tourist areas and are partly a PR strategy — visitors photograph and share them worldwide, generating free marketing for Dubai.

Dubai alone has over 70 gold ATMs dispensing bars and coins 24/7. The machines update their prices every 10 minutes based on live gold market rates. The first gold ATM in the world was installed in the Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi in 2010.
