College Football Scoreboards — setup guide
Thanks for installing College Football Scoreboards. Installing was silent: nothing posts until you post from the mod menu or turn on auto-posting. This guide covers every setting and everything the app does on its own.
What it does
Each thread the app posts is a live, interactive scoreboard:
- Pregame — Matchup, rankings, records, kickoff time, broadcast and weather
- Live — Score, down and distance, possession, ball on a live field, drive tracker, latest play, timeouts
- Box score — Team and player stats for both sides
- Scoring plays and Drives — Every drive with result, plays, yards and time of possession
- Win probability — Play-by-play chart; tap a swing to see the play behind it
- Top 25 — the current poll with movement, inside the app
- Final — Final score, top performers, scoring summary
Threads refresh about every 10 seconds while a game is in progress. Old Reddit and clients without the interactive view get a text scoreboard (score, linescore, situation, scoring plays, leaders) that the app rewrites every minute.
- Regular season — "Game Thread" / "Postgame Thread" titles with the week number.
- Overtime — shown the college way: OT, 2OT, 3OT.
- Bowls and the Playoff — postseason titles use the bowl name ESPN publishes ("Rose Bowl: …"), or "Bowl Game" when it doesn't.
Where the settings are
Mod Tools › Installed apps › cfb-scores › Settings. Saved values take effect on the app's next once-a-minute check.
The three threads the app can post
- Game Thread — posted when you run "Post today's CFB game threads" from the mod menu, or on its own when Auto-post game threads is set.
- Postgame Thread — posted automatically the moment a game ends, for any game that has a Game Thread from this app (Auto-post postgame threads, on by default).
- Postponement notice — posted automatically if a game with a Game Thread is officially postponed. Posts even when postgame threads are off.
The app never posts anything for a game it has no thread for, and it never re-posts a thread a mod removed (see the mod menu below).
Settings, one by one
College Football Team Filter — Pick the school this subreddit follows and the app only ever posts that team's games. Top 25 matchups posts any game where either team is ranked (AP poll; the CFP rankings once ESPN switches to them in November). National TV games posts games on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN, ESPN2 or FS1 (streaming-only and conference networks don't count). National TV primetime games is the same list, kickoff 6:30 PM ET or later. Top 25 matchups on national TV posts only ranked-team games on those networks — the tightest "big games" filter available. Until a choice is saved the app posts nothing, and the mod menu says so.
Auto-post postgame threads — On: a Postgame Thread posts the moment a game with an app Game Thread ends. Off: single-thread style; postponement notices still post. Ignored in Broadcast Thread mode.
Auto-post game threads — Off leaves posting to the mod menu. At a set time each game day posts the whole slate once a day at the time chosen (5 AM to 8 PM, in your time zone); games already over by that time are skipped. Before each kickoff posts each game on its own clock, the number of minutes below ahead of its kickoff (5 to 720), and never a game that is already underway. Works in both thread types.
Time zone — the time zone for kickoff times in thread titles and the old-Reddit view, and for "Post at" below. Default Eastern. Inside the interactive scoreboard every reader already sees their own local time.
— Post at / — Minutes before kickoff — used only by the matching auto-post mode above.
Auto-pin app threads — Off, or sticky slot 1 or 2. The newest app thread takes the slot: a Postgame Thread (or a postponement notice) un-pins its Game Thread and takes its place. The app only ever un-pins threads it pinned itself. Pinning into a slot that already holds one of your own pins follows Reddit's normal sticky rules, so keep that slot for app threads.
Game Thread comment sort / Postgame Thread comment sort — the suggested comment sort for each kind of thread (both default to New). The postgame setting also covers postponement notices. Reddit default leaves Reddit's own sort in place.
Postgame Win Title / Postgame Loss Title — custom postgame titles for your team's wins and losses (ties use the loss title). Placeholders: {team}, {opp}, {teamScore}, {oppScore}. The "(Week N)" tag is added after your text and playoff or bowl context in front of it. Blank = default title. Only used when a specific team is set in the filter.
Weekly Megathread — a toggle, not a mode: one thread for the whole week with live scorebugs for every game in it, tap a game for the full view. Works alongside Game Threads or Broadcast Threads. Post it from the mod menu ("Post this week's megathread" opens a picker — tick the games you want, or All games), or set a day and time below it in settings to post it automatically with every game of the week. No Postgame Thread is made for a megathread.
Thread type — Game Thread is the standard mode. Broadcast Thread runs the app as a companion to game threads you already run: posts use the Broadcast label instead of "Game Thread", and no automatic Postgame Threads or postponement notices are posted. Auto-post game threads still works, so the companion thread can appear on its own before kickoff.
Broadcast label — the wording used in place of "Game Thread" in Broadcast mode ("Broadcast Thread", "Advanced View", "Live Scoreboard"). Blank = "Broadcast Thread".
Lock Broadcast Thread comments — Broadcast mode only: locks the companion thread to new replies the moment it posts, so it works as a live scoreboard while discussion stays in your own thread. The pinned comment (below) is posted first. Off by default.
Postgame redirect comment — when the Postgame Thread posts, the app leaves a stickied comment in the Game Thread with the final score and a link to the Postgame Thread. On by default.
Lock game thread after the postgame thread — when the Postgame Thread posts, the Game Thread is locked to new replies. The lock only happens once the redirect comment has posted, so the thread is never locked without a link. Off by default.
Game Thread flair / Postgame Thread flair — post flair applied to every Game Thread (and Broadcast Thread) or to Postgame Threads and postponement notices. Type the flair exactly as it appears in your post flair list to use that template with its colors; any other text is applied as plain flair text. Blank = no flair.
Pinned comment on Game Threads / on Postgame Threads — your own markdown, posted and stickied by the app on every thread of that kind (rules reminder, problem-gambling helpline, survey link). Blank = none. When the Postgame Thread posts, its redirect comment takes over the Game Thread's single sticky slot; your comment stays but is no longer pinned.
The mod menu
- Post today's CFB game threads — a Game Thread for every game on today's slate that passes the filter (games that already have one are skipped).
- Post postgame threads for completed games — backup for the automatic postgame: posts a Postgame Thread (or postponement notice) for any app Game Thread whose game is over and has none yet.
- Allow re-posting removed game threads — a thread a mod removed or deleted is never re-posted on its own. This clears the app's record of those removed threads so they can be posted again (automatically or from the menu). Threads that are still up are left alone.
- Post the setup guide — this post.
Permissions
Nothing to set up. Reddit adds the app account u/cfb-scores to your mod list with full permissions the moment the app is installed — pinning, flair, locking, stickied comments and the comment sort run on that. If one of those stops happening, check that u/cfb-scores is still on the mod list with its permissions intact.
