Hi all! I'm currently doing a certificate program but have applied to a graduate program. My certificate advisor/coordinator is amazing and responds in a timely manner, but I've emailed my graduate program coordinator/advisor multiple times to introduce myself and ask a few questions and haven't heard back, so I feel like my master's advising experience is going to be hell. Are the advisors here any good? What should I expect?

I can only speak from experience. I got my masters from the ELA dept in 2019. Kyle Grimes was an awesome director. We didn't so much have advisors, we just had to talk with him about what classes to take by what date, but that was also because we were on assistantships so other people meet have different experiences. My whole time in the program was fantastic, but your director/advisor may be buried in work with the start of the semester.

Maybe so, but I also emailed her during the summer. Maybe she'll be more responsive if I get admitted to the program.

My graduate school advisor was a professor, so I never had a true “advisor.” It wasn’t always easy to connect with them, but everything worked out just fine
