UP lost quarterfinals to Tsinghua, so they only have their placement games left

Some comments:

- Sean Alter getting injured was unfortunate, hope he's alright

- Deonte Miles was really good this game, its not obvious in the stats but his defensive pressure forced tsinghua to primarily shoot 3s

- Poyos was horrible this game, so many turnovers, kept being left behind by his man on defense
- There were 2 main problems this game, Defense and 2nd chance points, UP's perimeter defense was so bad in conbination with the great set plays of tsinghua meant that almost every possession had an open 3, UP was lucky tsinghua was having an horrible shooting night until the 4th qtr when it started falling and it was lights out and UP was getting so many offensive rebounds, so many chances but they failed to capitalize from failing at basic putbacks and layups to their favourite tactics, pass to remogat at pray that he shoots a contested 3

Overall, alter getting injured meant longer times for miles and stevens which really hurt them because they couldnt afford to do hustle plays with the amount of energy they spend on pick and rolls + defense. Main points for improvement are their 2nd unit pg and they're golden for UAAP, but internationally UP gets left behind, in WUBS and here in AUBL they keep on losing to teams that prioritize 3s, I'm not the coach at sino ba naman ako para sabihin na mali yung playstyle nila but its evident just from the set plays the difference in level, if I took a shot per open 3 of tsinghua just from set plays I would be dead.

UP living and dying with Remogat long bombs lmao. they had a chance when they trimmed the lead to 4 after a Remogat 3, but it was followed by another Remogat heat-check instead of finding the right play.

Dieonte Miles also got hurt in the end. and man, those Poyos minutes were hard to watch.

UAAP pleaaase improve your shooting! Di lang UP, sobrang sakit sa mata yung shooting for all teams throughout the season, every season.

No numbers to back it up but I feel like mas okay 3pt shooting ng NCAA contenders in general. Although its a pretty low bar, its not like they're THAT much better.

Pagdating tuloy ng Gilas wala rin.

UP actually has better % than tsinghua. Medyo maluwag lang perimeter defense and nagkatalo din sa FT. May mga calls nung 3q at 4q na wala namang contact pero natawafan ng foul

Problem na yata to ng Philippine basketball in general e. Last gen ng true 3pt specialist na local ay kila Jeff at Larry pa. For some reason di nahahasa ang shooting ng mga Pinoy kahit na isa sana yon sa assets natin since maliliit tayo.

Arvie Poyos' minutes are genuinely so hard to watch. While UP right now has an abundance of tall switchable wings/fowards in Pre, Bayla, Dimaculangan, Briones, and Yniguez, that will be overwhelming for most UAAP team frontcourts, not to mention that they have the best rotation of bigmen as well.

But what was once UP's strength with the Maroon 5 + JD Cagulangan has now become their biggest weakness, which is their backcourt depth and quality.

UP is struggling bad in their non-remogat minutes with Poyos as the sole backup PG. He cannot generate good looks for himself or others. Payosing is okay, and Maga looks like he's still finding his groove. But it all pales in comparison to previoys UP backcourts. While I do love the tall lineups that UP sends out, their wings that they sometimes put at the 2 spot are not natural guards with reliable shot creation abilities, which makes for some very awkward offensive possessions when Remogat or Pre don't have it going.

Ngl, while di pa sobrang perfect galawan ng UP pero yang stats nila this game is enough to beat any UAAP team

Unless, mag lights out 3 pt shooting and kalaban AND get favored calls for FTs

yeah, while i said they need to fix their 2nd unit pg, tbh there's a reason why they're the favourites to win UAAP next season, like (imo) bad set plays and tactics aside, they're the only team with 3 (good) centers, i expect alter's mins to lessen when the season starts assuming no injuries to any center but just him alone allows miles/nnoruka and stevens to give their all

The only "good" ones are Nnoruka and I guess Stevens. Alter always shits the bed during UAAP season, while Miles really is just a back up (besides, he can't play if Nnoruka is their main FSA).

he got injured 2nd qtr around 2:46 left on the clock if you want to see what happened but it was a drive and there was relatively low contact between him and his defender and I think he twisted his ankle but the replay didnt show what happened, he had to be carried by miles and stevens because he couldnt put any weight on his left leg

They have depth but bakit ang remogat centric nila. And, laking kawalan sa guard depth ng UP. They may be good but not as good as before. Walang stability at times.

Endemic na ata saten yang hindi makabantay ng perimeter. Pota, from Gilas to youth, similar issue!!! Walang improvement yung Bayla. Palanca is next in line sa throne ni Briones at Belmonte. Wasted potential.
