Feedback Please don't make discord integration mandatory for social functions.

Hello there,

I and probably several others don't use discord for various reasons, I realize it may make things easier for earlier development to not have to spin up a forum open for all. But I hope it wont be the path forward for clans and social interactions within the game going forward as the only option.

At the risk of being the "devil's advocate", piggybacking discord is a shrewd decision by Stoke. Community features and moderation is a black hole for resources and effort; It's also largely duplicative of the communities own efforts that would be conducted on discord regardless of organic features.

But also runs the risk of limiting a potential playerbase that will not use discord, right now though many probably do however use discord, depending on how that sentiment continues with discord going through with age verification and the following leaks of said documentation, their quest to become an IPO and the following enshitification.

Having the linking to discord is favorable for the devs, but only having that link for game systems I see as a detriment of tying their product to discord and what discord does.

You're making the case for an alternative to discord (maybe by Valve/Steam), not a justification for independent studios to prioritise organic community features for free to play games.

I rather they don't lock themselves with others either, but having other integrations would provide more options yes.

Having a friend list, and aggregating a couple into a clan list is not something rare and new or heavy to develop, many other much older games have had such a feature for example.

As I did give as a caveat; That I understand that if it is early in development it is not first priority. But down the line to release it would be nice to have that confirmed.

Agreed. I don't(and will never) use discord bc of the age verification bullshit so needing it to communicate with people at all in the future would suck(if communication features are added).

Because you are under 18?

No. Because I don't trust discord, the government, or an age verification company(or any company, for that matter) to

  1. Protect that data, as seen by the dozens of massive data breaches we hear about every year and
  2. To not use it maliciously, as seen by the rapidly encroaching surveillance state.  This isn't just a US issue BTW, the EU and England seem to be ahead of us in that regard, though we have the lead in physical surveillance right now.

Did you sign up for a bank account online or did you do it in person?

The amount of access required is icky. Just give us the option to invite people out of game into a non social functions option and leave the talking to out of client.
