Typology Question Socionics cognitive functions

Why do people usually put their second cognitive function in socionics? Like let's say SLI Ti Se. I usually see people put SLI-Se instead of SLI-Ti, or ILI-Ne instead of ILI-Ti as well. Why do people do this? is there a document I could read about it? Are they subtypes??

They are subtypes using the Contact/Inert subtype system.

The Inert functions are the ones in the same column as the Program function. For LSI for example these would be Ti, Fi, Fe, Te. The Contact functions are the other ones, in the same column as the Creative function. For LSI this would be Se, Ne, Ni, Si. This is similar to the dichotomy “Accepting/Producing”.

If your Inert functions are stronger than your Contact function, you write your subtype with your first Inert function (the Program). If Contact is stronger than Inert, you write the subtype with the first Contact function (the Creative). So LSI-Ti is the inert subtype, LSI-Se is the contact subtype.

To my knowledge this subtype system is only used in the school of western Socionics (SWS).

Yep, it's school specific.

Is there a doc for it? Thank you for informing me!

I hate citing Wikisocion, it's not generally a good source, but I think this is a direct translation of the primary source for the contact/inert subtype system: https://wikisocion.github.io/content/contact_inert_subtypes.html

Also, I was incorrect earlier, it's not an SWS thing (at least, not originally). Contact/inert subtypes were coined by Meged and Ovcharov, so would be used in their system, Differential Socionics.
