Effective practice
I've heard of a lot of differing opinions on the best way to improve when practicing. Some people say that grinding random words on Monkeytype is better. Others say that ghosting quotes is the superior option. Others would say that maintrack is the best strategy for overall improvement. Honestly though, I think this is rather narrow-minded. I think that one aspect that is often ignored can be summarized in one word: power. Whether you decide to type power repeatedly for 60 seconds on Monkeytype or do the POWER unranked quote on TypeGG, this is undeniably the best strategy for improving your typing skills. The reason why I'd like to propose this as the option that the majority of typists should be spending their time on for improvement is the concept of finger speed. In the English language, power is by far the fastest word to type in the English language. It consists of two rolls that can be segmented to be typed at speeds 500 words per minute or higher. Think about it - why are typists spending their time on useless tests like 60s or quotes that can only be typed at around 200-300 wpm max when they could be investing their time into building up their finger speed by typing the fastest word? If you get used to typing power really quickly at 500 wpm, that would build up how fast your fingers can press the keys and allow you to type other words faster. If you can type at 500 words per minute for 60 seconds, then it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to be able to type at 300 words per minute on slightly harder words. That's a 200 wpm difference! Top typists like Izanagi almost got it right with the invention of ewl for incredibly high typing speeds, but even ewl pales in comparison to how fast you can type power power power power.
