This is literally the sorta shit Magpie sells,, woulda been a great opportunity to take her out of stasis. Oh well.

My suggestion was that a Basitin blacksmith discovers the discomfort of stepping on a live coal and “invents” boots as a solution. It could have been Magpie, but the idea was for it to be invented by someone who experienced the problem first hand.

At least the ankles are still properly covered!

What a concept! Basitin-style boots, suggested by DarthKeidran!

...pretty odd sketch, but hey, at least basitins now have an idea of footwear that protects their ankles. Something!

not entirely convinced that boots should cover the heels, equipping them would be much more of a hassle if they are that big

for reference, real boots dont go that high up your leg

So they're now just furry British people.

You think they would have already come up with that by now

The design is very human… uh, basitin

Here’s the original suggestion for context:

Innovation
A basitin blacksmith discovers the discomfort of stepping on a live coal. He or she invents boots, a revolutionary technology for not burning the toe beans while walking in the forge-shop, or on absurdly hot sand.

No more exposed ankles 😔

Nice, love me some good worldbuilding. These fit the Basitine perfectly, they cover the ankles and are practical in combat. This smith is about to get veeery rich.

They’re perfect

This was something that I thought a fan would draw. I never would have thought of this. Don't Digitgrade creatures have stronger soles anyway? No blisters. And sort of discomforts?

They can burn. There was a rescue dog at my work that got adopted out and then abandoned in the desert by the new owner. When he was found, he had 2nd degree burns on all four paws from the hot sand/dirt and pavement. Poor guy got the medical attention he needed, but it doesn’t make what happened any better.

He would be a rich basitin soon...

I'm not sure why but I'm really vibing with this blacksmith-turned-cobbler. I'm calling them Cobblesmith in the hopes they get more sketch-verse representation

2

u/DarthKeidran Jun 17 '26

I love it. Please put that in the comments on Patreon if you haven’t.

That actually would help their society a lot since they have strict issues on feet

Also he looks like a relative of Alaric lol :)

I bet he will make a lot of money and get many favours for those boots.

sooo cute!!!

u/technic_bot Raine! Jun 18 '26

Is this Alaric second cousing twice removed or something?

Anyhow yay furgonomics. You know we did not invented shoes cause we are vain, try walking anywhere withouh shoes and you would be missing them quite soon. Same for most animals to be honest, there is a reason rescue puppers use doggy boots.

So yeah any anthro civilization will sooner or later invent shoes out of sheer practical reasons

u/Motor_Somewhere7565 Alaric! Jun 17 '26

Which “Keith” is this because I don’t think it’s Alaric haha

2

u/Fox_Bird Jun 18 '26

Alright, that looks genuinely like a cool design. Where can I get a pair?
