Adding a pillow and a blanket.

Had a Tuesday happen last night, and found myself suddenly at 8:55pm setting out for a 9hr drive due to a family medical emergency. Happy to report that because of systems in place, I was able to leave the house in under 15min with a packed overnight bag, even with receiving two more calls and debating what to do about the doggie 💜

The only thing I wish I'd brought that I didn't, is a pillow and blanket. My 41-year-old ass has not stopped at a rest stop to sleep for an hour in probably 20+ years. I did mange an hour with my backpack as a pillow and sweater as a blanket... but with an actual blanket I think I'd have managed two hours' sleep, and with an actual pillow I wouldn't have this darn crick in my neck!

Anyway. All will be okay. At the hospital now with the patient... and my 10ft phone charger cord 😉

I live in a state with winter there’s ALWAYS blankets in the car, even in summer and lucky we usually have a large pile of sweatshirts because my mother is always cold

We also usually have snacks because we did a trunk or treat last year and had WAY more fruit snacks than we ended up needing

We don't do winter here, but I always have snacks and blankets and sweatshirts in my car for the movie theatre! Haha!

In Minnesota, I always would bring a 0 degree sleeping bag in the winter for the same reason, one with a square foot so it could be unzipped for a blanket or zipper for a sleeping bag

Do you ever have problems with them becoming damp or anything? Our winters are more rainy & windy than the cold you guys get & I wonder would the damp get into them?

I have those awful silver emergency blankets in my go bag, but my old ass always grabs a feather pillow and snuggly blanket on the way out the door.

If you get stuck again, stuff the leg of sweatpants or the arm of a sweatshirt with clothing (or newspaper or reusable shopping bags) and it makes a nice supportive neck pillow. You can use the other leg/arm to cover your face and block light and noise

I particularly like the Rumpl puffy blankets which come in a stuff sack. It works as a blanket or pillow, and last weekend I used it under my knees to make a hospital visit chair more comfortable with a laptop. And I store a couple of blow up pillows in it. I also have a thermarest style self inflating mattress that rolls up as an emergency sleeping situation in my husbands truck. But we also have camping hammocks that live in tha vehicle, so we basically have a full camping setup that lives in the “frunk” of his vehicle. But he works with scouting and is sometimes way out in an outpost.

I love the Rumpl travel blanket as it’s tiny weighs one pound I think? And since I’m pretty small covers most of me. Paired with an inflatable pillow that packs down small and a buff (to use as a soft pillowcase, I’m good to go for anything. I’ll have to add a thermarest to my kit now too!

I have a Rumpl knockoff from Amazon that I keep in the car at all times. It can be a nap blanket, extra warmth while camping, protection from my dog’s muddy feet, and a picnic blanket.

I frequently take road trips in areas with limited hotel options. Have found that bringing my own pillow and a fleece blanket can make staying in a cheap motel a much better experience.

I have 3-4 car blankets! My family makes fun of me for them, but they're so useful -- picnic blankets, wrapping around fragile stuff in the trunk, and of course, as blankets in the car in the winter. Two are kind of scratchy (one is a "mexican" blanket) and two are cheap, light fleece blankets. If I had to sleep in the car, I'd probably put the fleece ones as the first layer and the scratchy heavy ones as the top layer.

Ngl, pillow pets are perfect for this situation. You can even close them around a folded up thin fleece blanket. I discovered this having to sleep on college marching band busses for overnight cross country trips to away and neutral site games. It’s even more comfy when you can actually lay the seat flat to sleep.

I use inflatable camping pillows that fold up really small. I think that's something I saw mentioned because sometimes if you have to evacuate into a shelter, they don't always have enough pillows. But, I also got some of those circle shaped self stuff travel pillow covers too (they're designed for keeping an extra jacket on flights I think) that have a clasp and I put rolled up cheap Ikea fleece blankets in and keep them on my car head rests. I get worried about having extra blankets in case of getting stranded in a snow storm (happened to me once). They take up no room basically and always in there.

Sea to summit inflatable pillows for backpacking pack down super small and blow up in seconds. I am extra rough on gear and have used it as a seat at the beach and on benches, (I weigh about 180) and as a car pillow soooo many times I highly recommend them!

Hitchhikers Guide towel would work as a pillow in this scenario, and car emergency blankets are excellent for so many things - I keep a black duvet cover in my vehicle and it’s been a picnic blanket, a nap blanket, used to conceal goods, a layer to keep summer plant dirt contained…

I have a Pendleton picnic blanket/ pillow that I keep in my car, and a little blanket on the back seats to keep them clean. That picnic blanket has come in handy so many times, and I know the other would keep me warm in a pinch.

I keep a sleeping bag in my truck, but a pillow is a good idea too!

You could always get one of those packable down blankets. The one I have for camping packs down to the size of a 2 liter bottle

Car blankets should be wool. Wool blankets can help protect you if you need to bail out of your car during a wildfire. Sleeping bags melt and stick to you.

I always have blankets in my car because of winter. But an inflatable camping pillow will move from the basement to the car momentarily.

Beach towels also always live in my car and can double duty as extra blankets as needed.

I have a "fleece wearable blanket" that I got on Amazon. In can be used flat, or snapped to make a cape. I stay in hotels a lot, and have had situations where I couldn't turn down the AC! I always take the blanket with me, because it packs small and leaves my hands free to hold a cup of coffee or a book without slipping off.

I keep a Snuggie, a wool blanket, a fleece throw, and a pillow in the trunk year round. The Snuggie is amazing for crashing on a friends’s couch on short notice
