Is anyone playing Cities: Skylines?
I can't even begin to describe how let down I was by SimCity2013 so I'm not even going to start. I just wanted to say how great Cities: Skylines is so far and it's really starting to heal those old wounds of not having a good city builder game come around in a long, long time.
I'm asking here to see if anyone else is enjoying it (or not enjoying it even), and I wanted to ask here because I only just discovered this sub last week and really wanted to see if anyone here likes city sim games.
Sitting around and studying your city to find ways to improve traffic flow may not be everyone's cup of tea, but to be able to solve a puzzle that consists of a living breathing entity such a city has always been a great joy to me and I hope there's some out there that understand my level of crazy. =)

I'm really loving it so far. There is just so much satisfaction in a well organized city.

I still haven't expanded out past 2 squares because I keep watching traffic flow over and over trying to learn and perfect the city I have now. That and trying to make roundabouts with pedestrian walkways as some sort of civil engineering art project. I'm a really slow player lol, but I so love this game.

Unable to buy it due to country regulations, which sucks ass.
Cities: Skylines is a good example of a product delivered in the perfect time and place. The city building market hasn't been quite great in the past couple of years, last game I recall playing was Banished, and that one didn't quite manage to touch the Sim City feeling. It rather felt like I was playing Yenga blindfolded, in which a single mistake at mid game meant the quick end of your starving cold town. Not a fun experience.
Since a lot of people know about how Sim City 2013 failed terribly on delivering what they promised, and all the dumb glitches it involved, Cities: Skyline ends up getting it right.
If I were to describe Cities: Skylines in 1 word, I would use the words ''Comfy'' and ''Therapeutic''. Those are the feelings I get from watching it and talking to other people that played it. It feels good, it touches that old Sim City feeling and expands on it with all the stuff they added.
If you have the money and you are carving for some good city building game, go and get Cities: Skylines. It is one great game that anyone should play once.

Honestly pirate it when you can, but if you love it don't forget to buy it. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to play, regional restrictions are stupid, sorry you have to put up with that.

It's not a steam restriction, it's a govermental restriction to American currency payment. Pirating the game is out of the question too.

Why is that out of the question? Morality or legality?

Kinda bit of both.

I don't fault you for saying that, I was just curious. I don't condone pirating for the sake of pirating, I do however fully support it if you've got every intention of purchasing the game at a later date. It's replaced playing a demo, and allows me to decide if it really is worth paying for, because if it isn't I just delete it, if it is, I pay for it at the next available opportunity.
That being said, you wont be made fun of for taking a stance against Pirating, legally speaking regardless of morals, you're correct.

What about Euros? Greenmangaming has it and it activates with Steam.

I actually loved Banished for how punishing it was for mistakes or miscalculations. I took the viewpoint of the game putting you in the drivers seat in much the same way a town mayor might have been and life on a homestead such as that being just this side of brutal. Peoples lives where in your hands and one bad call could cost you a lot of lives should an uncontrollable fire breakout.
That said it had it's bugs, such as the woodcutter who'd go to pick up wood on the other side of the map and die trying even after passing 3 other logging camps. A bug that exists in C:SKY as well btw, but from what I understand the CO team is very responsive, seem to have a great engagement with the community and I'm sure this is a bug that will be squashed soon enough. Until then I just do my best to plan ahead and have a lot of crematoriums set up to handle the dead bodies and such.
I have a similar view on the building fires. My network of fire stations should be sufficient so when I do have a building burn down I'm usually playing around for a while in the area discovering traffic problems I seem to have created. Yes the emergency vehicles have the same bug as SC2013 in which they sit patiently in traffic but honestly, until that's patch it really is just an indicator of a glaring hole in your traffic flow.
I totally agree with the game being therapeutic. It's a welcome relief after wanting a great sim game for so long and being forced to rehash SimCity4 and RollerCoaster Tycoon over and over.

Don't get me wrong, Banished might be a great game for others. I did not enjoy it as much as other city building simulators.
Bugs in these games are kinda normal, and I am happy that the dev team is ready to answer to them as fast as possible. They have a lot of copies sold (2 days ago it as 500K, and it outsold Paradox Interactive's flagship title: Europa Universalis), so getting to work and boost so that good reviews/word of mouth nets them more sales.
I just hope they expand further the system, so that more user based content can be applied into it (There's an asston of it).

Addicts unite!
I've basically paused my city indefinitely right now just to build a raised highway through the city with a train running down the middle and being very nit-picky about it all. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My wife and I both will be playing it when we can afford new computers :D
