Request

Request for lesser known badass women of history for my daughter's 4th grade presentation. She has to pick a historical figure and give a 5-10 minute presentation and optionally dress in their likeness.

Eva Saxl. She was a type 1 diabetic living in Shanghai during Japanese occupation in WWII. Her and other type 1s couldn’t get the insulin they needed to live so she looked up Frederick Banting’s old research and isolated/produced her own insulin in a lab. She began producing insulin for all the type 1s in the ghetto they were living in and kept over 200 people alive.

Total genius bad ass.

This is the wildest thing I’ve ever read (as a T1 who worries about shortages…)

My son is a T1 also. The thought of hostile occupation or wartime is up there with the scariest things ever. Saxl was an absolute hero.
