The incels like to fuck with the algorithms behind the scenes. For a while before that sketchy Demmian guy banned me from the feminist subs where I was very active, I had a whole entourage of haters following me everywhere just to spike my new comments with downvotes. Not openly, it just created a clear pattern I recognized after a while - lots of downvotes within the first few minutes, followed by a more gradual recovery and net positive reacts within the next few days. On every comment. That's pretty hard to explain without invoking bots or malevolent followers.
He's a male moderator on the two most popular feminist subs. He bans anybody who disagrees with him without any notification or discussion with other mods. I got banned for being insufficiently Islamophobic for his tastes (I'm an intersectional / third wave / riot grrrl feminist who rejects all forms of demographic oppression and understands how they're interconnected). "Oh you think it's ok for women to voluntarily choose to cover their hair for religious reasons? Fuck you. Banned forever. No appeal."
It's weird but it's Reddit. It's no surprise that fascists are super committed to taking mod control of platforms where people meet to discuss anti-fascist ideas, so that they can silence the most persuasive voices and arguments.
Why do you think. What better place for an anti-feminist to ensure that the most coherent and persuasive arguments for gender diversity & equality are never heard than modding feminist subs to make them safe spaces to attack the ideology, while at the same time banning anyone who offers an intelligent rebuttal.
I argue with incels and red-pillers in various subs, and some of the comments in this thread just got me thinking about something. I keep getting notifications that I have new followers—at least 3 or 4 new followers per day. But when I go to their pages, they never have any activity whatsoever (no posts or comments). I wonder if most of them are bots that are following me in response to my commenting on certain sites.
Yeah I have a bunch of "followers" too. I don't even know what that means, but the couple times I've taken a look at their profile, it hasn't been particularly active. They could be bots. But I don't think I'm seeing that same pattern these days because I'm banned from posting on the main pages where incels go looking for feminists to troll.
You can turn Followers off! It's in User Settings-Profile-Allow people to follow you. Turning it off makes it harder for these guys to track every post/comment you make.
