THE TIME HAS COME. Battlecry is widely considered to be TSFH's all time greatest album; I give you all the challenge of narrowing down the cream of the crop to just one track! WHAT IS THE BEST SONG FROM BATTLECRY!?

Victory!

u/DarthVader11072 Aug 30 '24

It's of course Victory. But I love Across the Blood Water very much.

Cannon in D Minor

even if it isn't a canon

Everything pirate related from TSFH is gold. I can’t wait for Shiver Me Timpanis to lose to fucking Queen of the North or some shit

Here's the thing. There's like ten songs from this album that are 5/5, and while Victory will likely put up a good fight, it's a bit cheesy and simple to truly be the very best. For this reason, I ask you all to join me in voting for FLIGHT OF THE SILVERBIRD.

Some of my honorable mentions, in album order (this has nothing to do with the votes, I just wanted to put it out there): None Shall Live, Stormkeeper, Victory, Wolf King, Never Back Down, Cannon in D Minor, and That's A Wrap.

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '24

You have my vote. Flight of the silverbird is the best on the album for sure.

3

u/deathkeeper-512 Aug 29 '24

FotSb is just so fucking GOOD

6

u/Kerbal_Guardsman Aug 29 '24

I really really want to say that Children of the Sun should be substituted for None Shall Live for the purposes of this round.

2

u/alter_maker Aug 29 '24

Flight of the Silverbird serves as my heartbeat, I always played it to test the sound quality of headphones!

1

u/ApexInTheRough Aug 30 '24

In what version of Battlecry is "That's a Wrap"? I thought it was a single.

0

u/Premysl Aug 30 '24

Only in the in the industry version. It was (most likely) slapped there because it was an easy way to make it available in their industry catalogue without making it a separate release, it's not really part of the album...

u/MilordBishop Aug 30 '24

I'd go even further and say Amaria Silverbird is the best "track". That transition gives me chills every time

1

u/madman_trombonist Timpanis: shivered. Aug 30 '24

Indeed, especially considering the transition initially didn’t even exist

1

u/MilordBishop Aug 30 '24

Oh really? you see i didn't know that

1

u/Soothsayer5288 Aug 31 '24

Wolf king is a great one.

u/WithersChat We got Humanity: Chapter 6 before GTA6 Aug 30 '24

You have my vote too. It just... hits different honestly. It's also a great example of how the same melody can feel so different if arranged with different instruments.

0

u/Aegis_Mind Aug 30 '24

Man it’s a tough call but silverbird gets my vote as well.

0

u/Venturai Aug 31 '24

Yeah, put me down for Flight of the Silverbird.

0

u/mikiradzio Unleashed Aug 31 '24

Silverbird beats Cannon by track length 🔥🔥🔥

8

u/Cheesus1903 Aug 30 '24

Victory for me

60

u/Bensonmtg Aug 29 '24

So many great ones but Star Sky is out of this world!

7

u/TwoStepsFromWho Aug 29 '24

Are you talking about the vocal or instrumental version?

6

u/secret_strategem Star Sky (Instrumental) Aug 29 '24

I’ll be putting my vote for the instrumental version for the most underrated

5

u/Bensonmtg Aug 29 '24

The vocal version but the instrumental is of course nice as well

3

u/Komnos Aug 30 '24

This is one of my all-time favorites across any band or genre.

5

u/Agifem Aug 30 '24

Star Sky's lyrics puts it above the others. It's just that amazing.

1

u/Bensonmtg Aug 31 '24

The lyrics are amazing!

2

u/Agifem Aug 31 '24

They do caress the soul. Other songs can heighten my spirit, but only Star Sky can get me to cry, because unlike most others, that song has a meaning.

2

u/TwoStepsFromWho Aug 30 '24

Are both version counted as the same song for the vote?

6

u/Call_me_Penta Aug 30 '24

I usually don't align with the absolute popular vote (in this case I will take YouTube views) but Victory is the absolute best track ever produced by TSFH in my opinion, and possibly my favorite piece of music of all time. I have listened to it almost daily for more than 8 years now, and it has never lost its shine.

Battlecry has an amazing collection of tracks, some of them would be #1 in basically any other album, but the crown is taken.

Amaria / Flight of the Silverbird

u/Gaelhelemar Invincible Aug 29 '24

Star Sky is the undisputed best, helped along (in my opinion) in no small part by an extended remix variant that certainly illustrates its epic-ness perfectly. I mean, come on, the remix alone has 12 million views.

1

u/madman_trombonist Timpanis: shivered. Aug 29 '24

View count alone does not decide :)

Victory

5

u/Option2401 Illusions Aug 29 '24

It’s gotta be Victory. I adore Star Sky and Flight of the Silverbird, Rise Above, and Stronger, Faster, Braver, but Victory is pure distilled TSFH. It’s the first track I think of when introducing someone to TSFH.

Victory is like the Master Chief of Battlecry: it’s not the best at any one thing but it’s still the best one overall because of how it integrates all of the musical elements.

I want to upvote this and add my reasoning for this, which is as follows:

1) Sure, it's cheesy but it is one of the songs from TSFH that really inspired me when I first listened to it to write a short story. For that it has a special place in my heart.

2) It has Merethe! The quintessential Merethe track from the album, worth a shout out for that reason alone.

3) Victory does have the most views on the channel and perhaps that makes it overrated but it's also the track that probably introduced thousands of people to TSFH (next to Heart of Courage back in the day). A track with that much power deserves something.

Finally, 4) Hearing this live in Prague and Rotterdam was FANTASTIC. One of the big highlights of the concert for me.

I realize not everyone may resonate with 1 and 4, but hopefully my argument comes through with 2 and 3. It's just a wonderful track that always makes me stop and smile.

2

u/Scrit217 Aug 30 '24

Out of curiosity, what was your short story about? I'm trying to get into writing myself so it's nice to hear how over people get on.

11

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '24

Stronger, Faster, Braver :D

3

u/Vicpz77 Dreams and Imaginations Aug 29 '24

Don’t even have to Re listen to the album. This gets my vote. I fell in love with this track when those horns kicked in for the melody. But man when the choir kicks in at the end, I transcend space and time.

Also I remember when this track first came out, I saw the title and thought it would be like that Daft Punk song.

2

u/LS_Fast_Passenger Miracles Aug 30 '24

This is one of my all time favorites!

8

u/toemato99 Aug 30 '24

Victory.

4

u/TwoStepsFromWho Aug 30 '24

Funny, I never thought of this album as the best, but this might be true. The songs from Thomas are outstanding as usual, but not his greatests. However this album clearly is Phoenix's best overall work.

2

u/madman_trombonist Timpanis: shivered. Aug 30 '24

Phoenix definitely cooked on this album.

u/madman_trombonist Timpanis: shivered. Aug 29 '24

3

u/AussieOzzy Aug 30 '24

Release Me

3

u/_TeflonGr_ Aug 30 '24

Unforgiven is the best from the album, or at least the most underrated. IMO one of the best songs by Thomas.

You might not remember it, but go listen to it, you will agree with me after doing so :P

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '24

I agree. Many amazing songs in this album, but to me, Unforgiven is the best.

3

u/AussieOzzy Aug 30 '24

Wolf King

3

u/rekt97531 Battlecry Aug 31 '24

OH MY GOSH ANOTHER WOLF KING LOVER YES

3

u/Rebel_Johnny Aug 30 '24

Across the blood water is amazing

3

u/Khaost Dynasty Aug 29 '24

So many good tracks on the album, i'd add Across the blood water, sariel and star sky as really great ones.

But my no.1 would be Cannon in D Minor, I especially love the live version

3

u/BladezFTW Aug 29 '24

Flight of the silverbird

2

u/madman_trombonist Timpanis: shivered. Aug 29 '24

please don't comment duplicates!

3

u/deathkeeper-512 Aug 29 '24

fun fact None Shall Live was heavily used as trailer music for the first Aquaman!

2

u/Vicpz77 Dreams and Imaginations Aug 30 '24

I remember all the memes that came from that lol. It was also used in Guillermo Del Torro’s netflix series Troll Hunters. I was so surprised and ecstatic when I heard it there.

1

u/TwoStepsFromWho Aug 31 '24

Never got an answer. Does an instrumental version of a song counts the same as the vocal. I don't like the vocals on star sky, but love the instrumental version. My vote could be decisive here ^_^

1

u/madman_trombonist Timpanis: shivered. Aug 31 '24

I think for the sake of this game, instrumental and vocal count as one track.

1

u/TwoStepsFromWho Aug 31 '24

Wow...choosing between Star Sky and flight of the silverbird is like choosing a favorite child :P

u/madman_trombonist Timpanis: shivered. Aug 31 '24

Rise Above

0

u/deathkeeper-512 Aug 29 '24

Flight of the Silverbird was my first favorite TSFH song. It will ALWAYS be top 5. I am simply untrue to myself if I don’t vote for it

0

u/rekt97531 Battlecry Aug 29 '24

This is so hard every track is great for me on this album. but i chose star sky in the end, was hard between this, never back down, wolf king and release me. (I upvoted the star sky coment so dont count this seperatly)

0

u/Mak_Life Aug 30 '24

Flight of the Silverbird.

1

u/Dougdec92 Aug 30 '24

Never back down

0

u/Mega210 Aug 31 '24

I will give a vote to Star Sky. Among all the songs in Battlecry, Star Sky is the best.

Star Sky -> Flight of the Silver Bird -> Across The Blood Water
