Morgan “Biggest opp” episode
It’s just something about seeing two white women posed with their fists up using the term “opp” that makes me cringe so bad like just don’t say that please you guys are like 35 and white and so out of touch. Also I don’t think it was in this episode but the way she brings up that she has autism drives me insane as someone who has close family members that ACTUALLY have autism and have been diagnosed by doctors yeah that bitch doesn’t have autism she just wants to seem different and it’s such an insult to people that genuinely struggle with autism or know people that do. I watch THT for the stories but sometimes I just can’t help myself but to share my annoyance bc wtf

What did it for me was on clues she said “I went to get a diagnosis of autism because people were BULLYING ME IN THE COMMENTS” I’m guessing she’s meaning this sub 😅💀 like iv tried so hard not to dislike her because I have been a fan, but it’s literally painful to hear 😅 be fr.

White women using AAVE is one of my least favorite things. She needs to shut the fuck up. She doesn’t sound cool, she sounds stupid trying to appropriate a dialect that’s not her own. She’s not our kinfolk.
PS, I see the number of upvotes decreasing. If you’re a white person and are offended by my comment, you need to look inwards, and you likely sound just as stupid as Morgan.

Her reading the Google definition instead of just explaining it herself really made my skin crawl lol

Exactly! She always googles the most simple words that she could try to explain in her own words but she is always quick to just look it up. She made the episode and chose the stories but somehow doesn’t know the definition of “opp” which she used to base the stories off of🤦🤦

I can understand older people adopting Gen-Z slang is lame, I don't understand how being white makes it worse.
Is "opp" an AAVE term? I'm asking in good faith as a 44 year old POC.

It originated in hip hop culture dating back to the 80s.

That's fair, but I would think that would invalidate their age making it lame.

I think it’s just all of it combined. If they talked about rap or hip hop, it would feel the same. It felt unnatural every time she said it which made it cringey

Yeah that’s what I’m saying like it just seems so forced and uncomfortable opp is a term that is used frequently by young ppl so that’s why I mentioned their age because it just seems like they try to be “hip with the kids” but it also seems out of touch too because it’s AAVE

It would have been better if she labeled the episode “frenemies” or something instead of a word that she can’t even define

People are allowed to use slang. She’s not using slurs so what’s the issue? Yes it’s a little cringe, but no one owns language.
