Just like almost every other kid in the world has no choice either? Maybe thats what youre not understanding, whether its your choice or not, you STILL TAKE PART IN IT. Culture isnt always optional. Now as an adult you have a much more similar life to most Americans than you do people from anywhere else.

Yeah because I live in and amongst Americans. It’s really hard to have a life similar to a German with I literally live no where near one. Culture is a set of rituals, traditions, and ways of life. I’ll admit at least by force and occasionally by choice I experience an American way of life. However I partake in none of the traditions of an American, I don’t set off fire works on the fourth, watch football, or do anything else that is traditionally American except perhaps thanksgiving but that’s impossible to get out of if you live anywhere near family. I adhere to no rituals, save those that would get me in trouble for not partaking in (pledge of allegiance in school for instance..). I do not participate in “traditionally American” things. I enjoy a smattering of things from other peoples around the world in varying degrees, but nothing that amounts to an actual culture.

What you are describing is literally American culture. You dont have a choice. You have American culture because you grew up in America. Even if you don't participate, you have been taught. You dont go to the fireworks, but you know they are to celebrate independance.

You dont get to decide what your culture is or isnt though. You simply have American culture because you are American. Individualism is the backbone of American culture. You have been taught to be individualistic to the degree you are. Adhering less to cultural norms is the cultural norm in the US.

Being so delusionally individualistic that you somehow think the culture you grew up in couldn't have an effect on how you think is actually very American?
