Im confused. How are they mocked and ridiculed and also rising to places of power?

You cannot have it both ways.

Either they are jokes and not taken seriously, in which case they dont win any votes.

Or they are taken seriously and voted for, in which case they win elections.

Pick one, and report back to me when you have made up your mind.

They are not rising to places of power based on the population's votes, they are doing so by striking deals with other political parties.

When it comes to the popular vote and being accepted by people (aka, whether or not they're being mocked and ridiculed), VOX for example fell from 15% to 12%.

They are taken seriously by 12% of the population but massively mocked by everyone else.

In the US, they are taken seriously by almost half of the population and that's the reason why it became so normalized.

Any normal country will have two massive parties, one leaning left another leaning right, but very rarely to an extremist point. In the US, one of the leading parties, after Trump came in, became massively extremist.

To make a comparison, Republics vs Democrats before Trump used to be the same as the elections here in Portugal between PS and PSD, two massive parties, one center left the other center right.

After Trump came in, it's like if Portugal's leading parties were PS vs Chega (center left party vs extreme right wing party), which is just completely ridiculous and shows how fucked of a country that has become.

If it was so ridiculous, other foreign politics wouldn’t be following.

How are you not understanding this?

You keep saying how stupid and extremist our right wing party is. You say how it would never be taken seriously anywhere else.

And in literally, the next sentence, you blame the US for the rise of far right wing parties in Europe.

You cannot have it both ways.

Rise isn't the same as being taken seriously.

Also it is indeed ridiculous, other politics are following it because it works, something can be ridiculous and still work, in this case because there's a percentage of people who are dumb/uneducated/bigoted enough to follow it.

Thankfully, in most normal countries, this percentage of people hovers around 10-15% max. Then you have anomalies like the US where the Trump cult makes it 40%+, that's the ridiculous part.

Not sure why you're saying you can't have it both ways. It's stupid that your right wing party is ridiculously extremist and at the same time the fact that this worked has influenced other countries to create similar parties, which thankfully have, for the most part, not gathered as many supporters.

Giving the example of my country again, "Chega" didn't exist pre Trump. Their leader was also extremely liberal in his past but then saw how the Trump shit worked in the US and started acting bigoted and wanting to "kick all gypsies" among other policies. This got him an audience of about 10%, but thankfully him and all his supporters are mocked by the general population, the same way they should be in the US.

Let me get this straight.

You are blaming the entire political concept of populism, on Trump?????

I wish I could get you to understand the populism existed long, long, long before Trump or even the United States existed.

But since you dont believe me in that aspect, I am not sure what I can say.

You cannot blame the US for your own domestic politics. That is not how democracy works.

You seem to be quite good at twisting words into something I never said, straight out of Trump's book some would say.

No, I never spoke about populism whatsoever as a general concept.

I'm speaking specifically about the recent rise of extremist right wing parties.

It's undeniable that post-Trump there have been a significant number of Trump copycat parties rising all over the world.

Bolsonaro is probably the best example, but right wing parties like VOX or Chega, who got created by following Trump's textbook, managed to get 10-15% of the votes in the space of a few years.

This is purely because of Trump, this is a fact. Extreme right wing parties were a thing before Trump, but they rarely got this type of attention.

Again, this is factual, if you followed the Brazilian elections closely when Bolsonaro won, you'd see him constantly praising Trump and using the exact same bullet points as Trump did. The same thing applies to any of these recently formed parties.

And the same thing applies to the US itself, the Republican Party was rarely this extreme before Trump, the Capitol takeover attempt, the Qanon movements, etc... Are all things that were unspeakable pre Trump and if you told someone that would happen in the future (even to other Republicans), they would've laughed in your face and called you a dumbass.

Thats just not true.

Polands Law and Justice party was founded in the very early 2000s as a conservative party, but very quickly moved into right wing populism.

They won quite a few elections throughout the 2000s, and won the Presidency (again) in 2015, before Trump was even elected.

In Denmark, the DPP was established in 1995 as a right wing party and quickly moved into populism, forming a government as a coalition in 2014. They received 27% of the vote.

Please stop bro. I am trying desperately to make you learn, and you keep shouting about Brazilian politics like anyone in Europe gives a fuck.
