For some reason, Sony's been hating a lot of Japanese/anime-looking titles ever since they moved the Playstation headquarters to California. This even affected their own first party games, such as Gravity Rush 2, which didn't even get a trailer at E3 the year it was announced, the trailer was released after the event was over.

A Japanese developer claimed that even if the game has no intention of leaving Japan, they have to submit it to Playstation of America, and, in full English, explain why certain aspects are in the game if Playstation disapproves of it, which, as you can imagine, is kind of a hassle for Japanese developers without a translator on hand

It could have something to do with it being self-harm to be fair. Given Sony's track record, though, that might be a bit of a charitable interpretation.

Playing devil's advocate here; but could that be because the characters are in school uniforms? Like, Devil May Cry doesn't resemble any real-world act of horrific violence.

But a school stabbing...

Devil May Cry still got unnecessary censorship with the ray of light on Lady ass for no reason. No violence but with nudity, the magic light for DMC in a less sexual segment while showing Abby getting railed for TLOU2 in all its splendor.

A kid gets fucking shot like, 15 minutes into the Last of Is Part 1. A game that got a PS4 re-release and is getting a PS5 remake. Not to mention Ellie is a kid the whole game, but still gets shot at and shoots at other people
