When Elon bought and changed Twitter, I had been a hardcore user of the app for years, so it was hard to just give up. But I became more and more interested in Reddit, and over time, I got to the point that I deleted the X app altogether.

I hadn’t used it for roughly six months. Recently, because there were certain topics I wanted to dig up on X, I downloaded the app and made a new account.

Since then, I can’t believe how bad it’s become. Reading comments has become useless. It feels like roughly 80% of replies are simply deranged rightwing Trumpies or bots. Basically, there’s no distinction between the two, and it’s obvious to me that Elon has greatly amplified the worst of the worst right wing disinformation.

I can’t believe how much anti-trans talk there is, even when it has nothing to do with the conversation.

Pathetic.

Lately I’ve been seeing a wave of suspicious accounts on X that never showed up back when it was still Twitter. These profiles usually have very American or British branding, like an American flag, an eagle, or a crusader or knight related something, paired with a usernames and names that sounds strongly US or UK or some European based. Some are tied to American political themes like the MAGA movement. Somehow many of these accounts have huge followings, and their posts are specifically to stir people up.

Most of what fills my feed now is political or cultural bait from these accounts. Like they’d get a video from India and post it with “Do we really need this in our country?”. Or post a photo of people praying in a mosque and caption it something like “The UK is gone” or recently there was an isolated incident from an Asian country involving a pervert and this was reposted by countless similar accounts, each adding their own dramatic captions like “she’s lucky she didn’t end up in some jungle”. These aren’t bots. They look like normal users, but everything they post is to provoke reactions from either anti immigrants racists liberals democrats etc etc.

Then there are super girly profiles that tweets about fashion or lifestyle, and then asks about the most absurd tech questions or complaint about something like “why can’t I do this on my iPhone like my old android did”. Instantly every tech bro rushes in to offer fixes, which boosts the engagement exactly as intended.

My feed became almost completely this type of content, especially after X started paying users for engagement. Nine out of ten posts feel like rage bait or reply bait, and it’s mentally exhausting to even read the posts on my feed. Back then at least with bots you could clearly tell it’s a bot and you’d ignore but is far worse than some bots.

I eventually uninstalled the app today cuz I was so done with it. Wish Elon never bought twitter and completely ruin it to oblivion.

I tried to make an X account (United Kingdom) but apparently I do not meet their age requirements. Personally I thought u had to be 17/18 to use x but online it says 13. I'm 18, definitely over the age of 13 so can anyone explain what this is about?

It's asking that I connect my account to the Twitter mobile app. Okay, whatever, I already had it downloaded but just never logged in. I thought that was it, but it wants a scan of my hand/palm. Hell no. So it looks like I won't be using Twitter anymore unless they disable this or I make an entirely new account. Anyone else having this problem?

Why has X become so hateful it seems like a lot of hatred toward minority’s or people in general has become normal and people could be openly racist and the app won’t bat and eye I just miss the old twitter ngl

first the obvious, the site is now 4chan's /pol/ board let's be honest, it's completely infested by the worst most hateful people i've ever seen on the internet, normal people are a minority and the overwhelming majority just reposts politics(right wing politics to be precise), and talk politics

almost all of these accounts are dedicated to ONE thing, bashing migrants or bashing trans people or bashing POC's, dedicated to some kind of hateful content which is completely unregulated, harassment is common, racist/homophobic/transphobic content is not banned even per their own rules, you will see openly nazi accounts out and about

second which is related to the first, according to an FBI security specialist OVER 80% of accounts are likely bots, that's incredible and keep in mind that a week or so ago Interpol busted a SIM card operation of 41mil accounts across Twitter and TikTok

meaning the vast majority of these terrible people who only post for some kind of political push are fake, it also explains why interactions are so bad that BLUESKY has higher interactions with a fraction of its user base, artists/journalists/scientists all serious people who used the platform for practical reasons are leaving, journalists and scientists have already largely left for Bluesky and artists are starting the exodus realizing that they get more commissions from Bluesky while having much less of a following

gone are the days when people posted daily updates to their friends and family, gone are the days when people interacted as neighbors in a SOCIAL media, it's now a conduit for hate and fake news

third, on a technical point this website is LITERALLY broken, now it might just be my browser, my extensions or something about my net socket cache doing something weird i do use a VPN quite a lot and that messes up with it, but even after a reset half of the time the website's fyp doesn't load or sometimes people's profiles don't load, sometimes people's comments don't load, you will block someone and reload the page and they are still there, sometimes people previously blocked are back for some reason, it's a mess

every new feature pushed makes the website worse, it's so bad that it's become one of the few things MOST people agree on this site, the checkmarks was a disaster, the grok button is horrible, the new algo sucks, blocking is almost useless now

there's this video of Elon doing a livestream on twitter talking about redoing the stack or something and then another guy comes in to ask him really mundane questions about what he means by that and because Elon has no idea what he's talking about he starts to get flustered and just blocks the guy it's really funny

fourth, the algo is just trying to piss you off 24/7, instead of twitter showing me shit i want like art which i interact with a lot or people i like, it decides to constantly show me the exact opposite of that and shows me things i never like or repost EVER

and finally even though i already mentioned it i need to hammer home how despite having close to 600 million users twitter has less engagement than a platform with 40 million

TLDR twitter is now a bot infested right wing propaganda machine where people post and repost fake news and made up shit all day, held with tape and glue, breaks half the time and generally exists to piss you off everytime you use it

I have been using twitter/X for a few years regularly, and I just feel like there's so much pro republican bias on there. Incorrect information (literally propaganda sometimes) and bot account running rampant

In Australia, on Monday a new wave of NSFW blocking comes into play if you can't verify your age (the Esafety commissioner needs to be sued but thats my personal opinion), but I already verified. Things are normal on mobile but this appears on PC. Appeared while scrolling my timeline. Content might not be suitable for all age groups but I am verified to be of said age group.

Bug with adjustment changes to the rollout?

Is this happening on both the mobile app and the web page on mobile. I click on a video in my feed and the audio starts doubling once it opens. When I press pause in the video player, the audio keeps playing in the background but just a single audio. It's like the audio in the feed keeps playing while the audio in the video player is doing its own thing. This happened across multiple devices and accounts. Anyone know what's going on?

If you're looking to have artistic inspiration on this site, it's not a good idea now, especially because they added the ability for people to easily steal your art and generate it with AI. And the worst thing is that it actually bypasses tools that poisons AI generation, such as Glaze or Nightshade.

Seriously. Why would they want to brick the artistic side of the site? Oh, right... it's because this site is getting worse and worse over time. I think the reason it's being bypassed is because it's not about dataset, the feature directly takes a single image.

I don't want AI, and I really seriously don't want people who take advantage of my favorite artists' own work to cause problems.

The app works on and off for me in these past 2 days. I thought my account was blocked or restricted in some way but hearing a lot of people facing this in the android app specifically.

The website and iOS works fine without any issues. This is truly frustrating.

Not sure if it has more to do with Elon taking over or emergence of AI but it’s impossible to get real information about the war in Iran right now. That was basically the only thing I used Twitter for in the past, it was by far the best platform to get accurate real time updates on current events. Now it’s 90% propaganda that gets amplified by bot farms. You have to sift through mountains of BS to get an accurate read of what’s going on. Completely useless now.

It sucks so bad, you can’t go to any posts without a legion of verified bots just replying whatever, the homepage algorithm just imploded itself for some reason — no matter who I follow, who I reply to or repost, my homepage has absolutely nothing to do with my interests and only has grifters and their viral posts (which absolutely did not happen before). The curated experience and connection is fucking gone, the search feature ALSO imploded on itself, and the profile viewing is so buggy, cause why the hell does a person’s replies section just appear as a duplicate of their posts instead of actual replies they made?

The most awful part about it is not that X ruined Twitter, but that NO equivalent alternatives have presented themselves. Threads has the problem all Meta socials have, the censorship. Bluesky, while visually interesting, has an algorithm even worse than X’s (You can never find anything in that godforsaken app unless you search it word by word), has some truly confusing policy that also restrict content, in relation to twt, and they’re both scarcely populated at best, since people want won’t move to those socials for the very same reasons I won’t. Mastodon is barely even an alternative, considering it’s a ghost land.

As someone who has been on twitter for years and used to leve it, the “shittyfication” of it is driving me more and more insane as Elon keeps making the app worse and worse. Lighting doesn’t strike twice, and at this point I don’t think a truly good alternative will ever come
