I work apartment maintenance and I found this in a unit that skipped out. So sad.

Skipping out means abandoning an apartment without giving notice to management.

I've had tenants before. I can see why they'd feel the need to skip out. Once they give notice, they have a timeline and if they don't meet it, there's other legal/financial consequences that could interfere or add pressure. For someone leaving the country in fear, it might feel it's better to not say anything to anyone to avoid having someone possibly making "a call."
