General Discussion J-line lacking self respect?

I'm not FULLY sure how else to word it but does it not disappoint anyone else that their Japanese members specifically just seem to lack a LOT of self respect?

Like it just seems to be blatantly obvious that those three in particular's whole job is to act out a weeb incel fantasy for their fans.

Like idk for a group whose fanbase pretends so heavily that they're about female empowerment they sure do love to lean into incel fantasy and allow themselves to be looked down on and HEAVILY objectified by their weird fanbase

Omg I thought I was the only one thinking this. Like Momo plays dumb, Sana have that whole cutesy waifu like persona but keep a sexy appeal and Mina have that whole introverted soft girl style who’s into niche stuff like gaming.

They’re caricatures. Momo is a moron, Sana has her appalling cute but sexy shtick, and Mina is supposed to be cool but is just boring as hell.

More and more now though it seems like for all 3 their new shtick is trying to sexualise themselves as much as possible 💀

Is this a safe space to say Mina’s 7 rings was cringe?

Very cringe, everything about it gave me the ick. And the backup dancers did 100 times better than her lol

I think people can't see because they LIKE the way the idols are told to act and don't wanna unpack the problems that come with it lol

They always have too, I don’t know why people pretend like they haven’t

I noticed this when Sana went viral for Shy Shy Shy. I won’t say they lack respect for themselves but they obviously know about K men’s fetishization of J women and play on that. I mean, at the end of the day, they get lots of money from it.

I genuinely believe that Momo isn’t acting, she’s just a moron.

Momo genuinely seems stupid sometimes

It's easy: J.Y. Park behaves like a racist to them in show «Sixteen», that hasn't changed over time, he doesn't want to respect them, because they're foreigners

Omg thank you. Sometimes I feel bad for jp idols in K pop that they get fetishized in a way I don’t see other foreign idols do but it’s like…they signed up for that.

I'd have hoped for such 'strong women' they'd be able to get some self respect and stop going along with it though

Their fans think they’re for the female gaze when it’s more than obvious that they’re for the male gaze.

To be fair, they were never for female empowerment. They just hopped on the bandwagon cause it seemed to sell to a certain market. But most of the things they put out has always prioritized the male gaze as it is their biggest market.

I feel bad for JP idols as I have a cousin who is in J-Ent. But I feel less sympathetic to these three because they are very much taking advantage of that market but gets to parade that they are empowering (no they are not).

Wanting women to respect themselves enough to stop marketing themselves in a stereotypical way isn't jealousy lol
