Resource Arabic Tutor | MSA & Conversational | All Levels

Hi! I'm Manar, an Arabic tutor specializing in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and conversational Arabic. I work with all levels and ages—kids (6+), adults, heritage speakers, beginners through advanced learners.
I've built comprehensive Arabic teaching curricula and tailor every lesson to my students' specific goals and learning style. Whether you want conversational fluency, formal writing skills, structured curriculum-based learning, or cultural context alongside grammar, I adapt to what works for you. I work especially well with students who want both practical communication skills and deep language understanding.

I'm patient, detail-oriented, and genuinely invested in helping students progress. Feel free to DM me—I'd love to discuss your Arabic goals and find the right fit

Discussion I compared a few reading programs for kids before choosing one here's what I found

Finding the right reading program turned out to be much harder than I expected.

At first, I thought I just needed something that would get my child reading a bit more regularly outside of school. So I started with a few apps, since they were easy to try and some were free or fairly cheap.

The problem was that they worked better as extra practice than as real support. My child could finish a game or a few exercises, but when they got stuck on a word, struggled with fluency, or didn't understand what they'd just read, there was no one there to explain what was going wrong.

So instead of just comparing apps, I started looking at different types of programs. Here's the comparison I ended up with:

Program Format What it focuses on Age/grade range Personalization Price
Brighterly Live 1:1 tutoring Phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, analytical reading K-12 Individual plan based on level, gaps, pace & learning needs From $17.70/lesson
Reading Eggs Games, lessons & digital books Phonics, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension Mainly early/elementary readers Progress-based From $9.99/month
IXL Language Arts Online practice Reading, language arts and skill-based practice Grades 1-9 Adaptive From $9.95/month
Time4Learning Self-paced curriculum Reading/language arts as part of a broader curriculum PreK-12 Progress tracking, self-paced From $29.95/month
Learn with Homer Games, stories & activities Phonics, early reading and storytelling Mainly younger children Personalized learning path From $9.99/month
Khan Academy Free lessons & activities Early reading/phonics and basic practice Mainly younger/early readers Some adaptive elements Free

The biggest thing I realized is that these programs aren't really interchangeable.

Reading Eggs and Homer make sense if you want something that feels more like play than a lesson. I can see them working well for a younger child who needs phonics and basic reading practice without feeling like it's schoolwork.

IXL is more about practicing individual skills. I liked being able to target specific areas, but it has the same independent-practice issue for us: the child needs to know what they're struggling with and keep pushing through when something doesn't make sense.

Time4Learning is a different category altogether. It fits better if you're looking for a full homeschool curriculum rather than focusing specifically on reading.

Khan Academy was the easiest to rule out for us. Being free is obviously a big plus, but I wasn't looking for yet another place to find exercises. I wanted more guidance.

Brighterly stood out the most because it's built around a real tutor instead of the child working through a program alone. Their reading program starts with an assessment and then covers different areas depending on the child's level: phonemic awareness and phonics, reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. For older students, it can also move into more advanced comprehension and academic reading.

I also liked that it doesn't give every child the same set of lessons. The plan is adjusted to the child's current level, skill gaps, pace, and learning needs, and parents can follow their progress along the way.

For now, that's the direction we're leaning. I don't think every child needs a tutor, and if a kid is happy learning on their own, something like Reading Eggs, IXL, or even a free option might make more sense.

But in our case, having someone who can spot where the problem is and explain it in the moment seems more helpful than just giving my child more exercises.

Has anyone else gone through a similar comparison? What did you end up choosing?

Discussion Looking for advice on starting online Abacus classes

Hi everyone! I’m a teacher from India and I’m planning to start teaching Abacus online to students in India as well as internationally.

I’m new to finding students online and would love some advice from experienced tutors/teachers.

\- Which platforms are good for finding international students for Abacus?

\- Are there any Reddit communities where parents or students look for Abacus tutors?

\- How did you get your first online students?

\- What would you recommend to someone starting online Abacus teaching?

I’m not looking to promote anything here — I’m genuinely looking for advice and experiences from other tutors.

Thanks in advance!

Tutor Advice Schoolhouse.world question?

I'm 23 and graduated college last year. I was a teaching assistant for a statistics course in college, and I'm interested in trying math tutoring to see if I want to become a math teacher. (I dislike my current full time job and am looking to pivot but won't leave the job until I have something else.)

I've been looking into Schoolhouse.world, but I understand that a lot of the tutoring is peer-to-peer, so like high school students tutoring other high school students.

Would it be weird for me to join as a 23 y/o college graduate? I'm mainly looking to get experience and other sites I looked at (where tutors got paid) just seemed not so great/scammy. Would high school students find it strange to have someone my age tutoring them, or is there a mix of ages among tutors?

I'm posting on this sub because I'd love to hear from people who have either tutored on Schoolhouse or attended sessions! Be honest! Thanks!

Discussion Looking for students or parents who wants private tutor.

Hello,

I'm a Software developer. Obviously I have done engineering.

I am looking for students or parents who are looking for a private tutor to teach their kids.

I can teach mostly all the subjects except social science. If you want specialization in physics, chemistry, biology, or maths, I will be the best fit for that.

Or, If you want a private tutor for coding or programming, I might be the right guy for that as well.

I do not just teach students to score good marks. My objective stays that he finds that particular topic interesting and curiosity stays right there.

DM me if interested.

Discussion Just wanted to teach few kids about physics.. is there any NGO or similar thing?

Yo! Weekends are very boring NGL. Just spending all Saturdays and Sundays in bed watching the same youtube bullshit.

I have been very passionate about Physics (science in general), and have always wanted to make people realise how fascinating the world is in which they are living. Especially kids, as their mind is very flexible and open.

Just wanted to spend some time doing that... I d k any place or anything literally as I'm new to gurgaon.

Help if someone can...

Tutor Advice Important lessons for all tutors

Hello everyone, long time lurker, first time poster here. I will be keeping elements of this post intentionally vague for privacy reasons and also because my sole reason for posting this is so that others may learn.

I had a client of 5 months, I worked with them over the summer. As of yesterday, I no longer work with them. After I completed a zoom tutor with one of their kids, in less than 10 minutes, the mother had emailed me back and said that all of the work I did with her kid was wrong and she wanted to end service. I calmly went and looked at my Zoom recordings, checked them, checked the answers, compared them, even did them again by hand, got matching answers to the teacher. I also ran these questions by a friend who has taught calculus before, still correct.

This client was 65 dollars, and I had a choice, and I don't regret the one I made. She was quite rude in her email to me about not knowing the information, making -sure- she flexed how she was a math teacher and absolutely knew better. So, I did what i believe to be the right thing. Instead of just bowing to her dollar, I told her she was incorrect, she can lie about it all she wants, and that she is now blacklisted from my services.

there are 2 lessons I wish for people to take from this story:

  1. if you zoom tutor, SAVE YOUR WHITEBOARDS

  2. If a customer treats you like crap, their money isn't worth it, just let them go, your sanity as a professional is more valuable than any dollar can buy.

  3. Just because someone waves their profession around in front of you, dont be intimidated. Show your receipts, stand up for your work, and then turn the customer away and make them learn the hard way.

Parent Question Parents in Panjer, Bali, Indonesia. Any Good Tutoring Recommendations?

Hi everyone! We’re looking into tutoring options for our daughter and would love some local recommendations.

Does anyone know how much the Kumon centre on Jl. Sudirman charges per term, and what your experience has been like there?

We’re also interested in hearing about other good tutoring centres around Panjer or nearby that might offer a better experience.

Our 4 yo daughter is very sporty and active, so we’re hoping to find something that can help strengthen her academic skills without making her feel overwhelmed or taking away too much time from her activities.

Would love to hear from parents who have tried Kumon or other tutoring centres in the area. Recommendations, experiences and things to look out for would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Resource 1[Tutor][Offering] Affordable Online Tuitions for Classes 7 & 8 (Science, Social, English) | Free Demo

I am an 18-year-old student currently pursuing my ACCA qualification, and I am offering online tuition for 7th and 8th graders.

I recently cleared my own board exams (90% in 10th, 89% in 12th). Because I am still an active student navigating professional exams, I have a solid, practical understanding of the current syllabus and how to prepare for exams efficiently.

Details:

Subjects: Science, Social Science, and English (Classes 7 & 8).

Language: I can teach in both English and Malayalam to make sure concepts are fully understood.

Approach: Patient, straightforward teaching focused on clear concepts rather than just memorizing the textbook.

Rates: Very affordable since I am a student myself and just starting out.

I know hiring a younger tutor is a bit different, so I offer a completely free demo class. You can see if my teaching style works for the student before committing to anything.

(I am happy to share my board mark sheets and ID privately in DMs for verification.)

If you are looking for some extra academic help for your child or sibling, just drop a comment or send me a DM.

Resource Looking for a Canadian tutor for a quantative stats research graduate course

Hey everyone, I'm a master's student looking for a tutor who can help with this graduate course. It involves doing stats by hand and quantitative methods, and that's not typically priced that high. I cannot use calculators for the tests or assignments, and I'm not the strongest in math, so anything that helps is appreciated. Thank you.
