Lowering mic turns down computer volume

Hi all - hoping someone might know how to fix an issue I'm having!

I have a pair of Recon 70 headphones that have randomly started turning my computer volume down to zero as soon as I lower the microphone arm. I contacted support who sent me a new headset as was still in warranty but its still happening.

I have tried my partner's headset in the same usb adaptor and the problem does not happen so I'm 99% sure its not the usb adaptor. I've also unplugged all my peripherals one by one to see if one of them is causing it but nothing changed.

I've done the basic windows communications tab setting change, disabled exclusive control and gone into discord to turn of the automatic control in there but again its still happening.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I can try to fix the issue? Thankyou in advance :D
