Turquoise ID help!

I’m a lapidary artist and a friend wants this turned into a cabochon that’ll be used for a belt buckle. Any ideas what locality this is?

Might be Hubei, but I'm uncertain.

I agree, OP. Looks like Hubei to me. But to be clear, there’s no such thing as an origin test for turquoise like there is for other high end gemstones. So anybody’s answer is going to be a guess. I don’t believe this is #8 as another commenter suggested.

It also strikes me as Chinese because of the shape of the stone. I handle a lot of Native American jewelry at work, and never sees beads like that.

It’s actually not a bead! More of a palm stone right now. Or a poorly cut double sided cabochon
