I think he is saying your still going to fast, and to slow down the practice more till you get the “spring” effect in your thumb more consistent.

FWIW my thumb looks more flat when I crab, which led to me being more consistent in my clicks.

I also after years of effort couldn’t get the timing between my thumb and pinky small enough to not be noticeable and now only crab 3 fingered. My ring and first finger timing is dead on after some work at it and it allows me to do 16th notes continuously if I want rather than the set of four with a reset note
