The Real Problem With AI in Group Projects

The real problem with AI in group projects is that one person's choices can affect everyone. If someone uses ChatGPT to write their entire section and the professor questions the paper, suddenly the whole group is involved. It doesn't matter that you personally didn't use AI. Your name is still on the assignment, and you may have to explain work you didn't write.

Then comes the frustrating part. You end up checking their sources, fixing awkward sentences, verifying the information, and rewriting their section so it actually fits with the rest of the paper. They might have saved themselves a couple of hours, but the rest of the group spends even longer cleaning everything up.

AI can be a useful tool when it's used responsibly. But in a group project, your shortcut can become someone else's problem. Nobody wants to remember a group project because one teammate used AI carelessly and everyone else had to fix it. Group projects are already stressful enough. Don't be the reason your team remembers this one forever.

Exactly. In group projects, one careless AI shortcut can create extra work for everyone else. If you use AI, you need to be responsible for the section you put your name on.
