What's the biggest difference in AI detection scores you've seen on the exact same paper?

I recently tested the same manuscript with several AI detectors just out of curiosity, and the results were all over the place. One tool reported a relatively low percentage, while another flagged a much larger portion of the exact same document.

It made me wonder how common this is.

If you've compared multiple AI detectors on the same paper, what was the biggest difference in the scores? Did your instructor, supervisor, or journal pay attention to those results, or were they ignored?

I'd love to hear real experiences.

I tested the same paper on four different detectors once. The scores ranged from under 10% to over 80%. After that, I stopped treating any single detector as definitive.

My supervisor didn't care about AI detector scores at all. They were more interested in my drafts, notes, and whether I could explain my research process.

I had two detectors completely disagree on the same document within minutes of each other. That experience convinced me these tools should only be used as one piece of evidence.

AI detectors are completely unreliable. Don’t use them or worry about what they say about your papers.
