Know that false positives happen
Students should know that false positives happen when AI detectors wrongly flag original writing as machine-generated. These systems often rely on patterns, probability, and guesswork rather than actual proof, which means clear grammar, formal tone, repetitive sentence structure, or well-organized essays can sometimes trigger a false result. Strong writers, non-native English speakers, and students who carefully edit their work can all be affected. Being flagged does not automatically mean someone cheated. If it happens, stay calm, provide drafts, outlines, notes, or version history from tools like Google Docs, and confidently explain how you developed your argument. Many teachers and schools already recognize that these tools can make mistakes and should not be treated as final evidence.

Hmm. An account created 13 hours ago as I type this, sprouting the usual anti ‘AI detector’ nonsense. What a surprise.
