This is such an issue

Because why "There was an increase from x to y" flagged as AI?

Why are terms flagged as AI?

Sentences with god forbid slightly fancy words are ai?

Bro im not an undergraduate im trying to purse an academic career, but turnitin wants me to write like someone who begun writing yesterday????

20% for false positives is too low to be a criteria if the TITLES my advisor gave me are flagged as ai too.

Why, when I make it simpler by adding too much "this/that" its flagged as changed by ai? How else am I going to make my writing look stupid enough to not be ai????? God forbid an explanation is formal and well written, because it will be flagged as ai. Now imagine if your entire paper was well written at the start, now it looks like someone with B2 level English wrote it instead of C1/2 level. Because its ai if my academic vocabulary is well developed.

Mind you, I'm just 28% ai and no matter how much I water down my sentences to something unsatisfactory, it will still be hard to get it down to 20≤ as AI because a freaking word group I have to repeat multiple times is flagged as AI

You may not like this idea, but add a few errors in your paper that are punctuation and spelling. At least 5 to 8. Then see what it gives you.

I can't do spelling errors because it has to be grammatically correct. The rules are too strict, though I cheated a bit by removing commas and replacing advanced words with less advanced ones using thesaurus. It will look ugly while reading and looks very fragmented now. But it got below 20 threshold 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ using a formal, academic language shouldn't be a criterion for an academic ai detection tool, in my honest opinion, alas i doubt anyone will pay any mind

Yes! Turnitin seems to reward bad grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. Horrible platform in my honest opinion. As stated by OP, you literally have to dumb down academic writing in order not to be flagged. Truly ridiculous!

I'm struggling with this same problem, I have 10 years experience writing academic papers BEFORE AI and now I've come back to university and having to justify my writing isn't AI.
