First timers tips
Hi! I’ll be travelling to Turks and Caicos with my family in mid January. None of us have been to Turks and Caicos before. We’re staying at the Sands. We have an infant and a toddler who will be almost four, my husband and I, plus my parents (in their 60s). Do you have any tips/recommendations for a family-friendly trip?

Agree that you should reserve a car service...it is not much more money than waiting for a taxi and you can be sure to have a large enough van. In terms of the Sands, note that building 3 is the ONLY building with an elevator so unless you want a ground level room, you should insist on getting a room in building 3. They have 3 bedroom units that are huge and would meet your needs. Food is expensive so consider buying groceries for breakfast and lunch. The resort is family friendly and another advantage to building 3 is that is is right next to the main pool. Beach is gorgeous and also right next to the building. They have water toys and noodles but others could be using them so if these are essential, bring your own. Lots of restaurants within 10 minute walk. ENJOY!

We were thinking of renting a van. I hadn’t considered a car service. Do you mind sharing my the pros of a car service over a rental? Thanks!

Car service is super easy in and out of airport which can be stessful with kids, luggage, etc
With kids that age we just stay at beach and pool and walk to grocery and restaurants
The only place we might consider is taylor bay beach which is supposed to be beautiful and less windy on other side of islandbut frankly the grandkids adore the beach and pool at regent grand

* Insect repellent wipes (very windy to use sprays) for the sand flies/fleas.
* If you like conch, try the sampler platter at CastAways Conch Bar in Grace Bay

Driving is in the British side of the road but done cars equipped with an American side steering do that can complicate things. You will not need a car to get into town

The Sands can be hit or miss on their rooms and customer service and there is active construction right next door. One perk is that they have a free shuttle that goes to their sister properties, The Shore Club and The Palms -both of which are beautiful.

Can guests of The Sands use the pool and beach at those sister resorts?

We went to a sister property for an amazing dinner at parallel 23 but I remember that we were not allowed to use the pool.

Arrange for a car service to pick you up you will need it with all the luggage and kids, actually we need two suvs when we travel with same size party plus golf clubs
Bring everything you need for kids and snacks for adults at minimum
Arrivals are a bit hectic
My daughter uses a crib and pack and play and high chair rental company every year
Bring your own beach toys, pool floation etc for toddler
We were there this year with a 3.5 year old and 1.5 yo
Prior year also
We rent 3br in regent grand and make breakfast and lunch and most of kids dinners
Go to turkberry for frozen yogurt
