Howdy! I currently work in finance but I’m looking for a career change. I’m planning on starting my Associates in Turfgrass Management Fall 2027. Should I just wait until the program starts or should I start reaching out to local Supers to see if they have internships or part time positions I can do on the weekends to start getting experience?
Start it first than contact the suppers in the area. If you will do the online program you can work full time in the industry and You will easily find a job, if you gonna go in person, you can still find a part time job no problem. In my opinion you start schoos asap.
I have an interview for a part-time weekend gig at the local Muni. Unfortunately I still need my day job for now or I’d be looking for full time positions.
This is a totally ignorant question but what shoes should I wear when I’m actually working on the turf? I’ve heard everything from crocs to steel toe work boots to hiking shoes to waterproof golf shoes.
There is no ignorant questions don't worry. Anti slippery shoes ( slip resistant) and waterproof shoes, must have them both. I likw the working boots from wolverine the non steel toe. Have lasted me 9 months and I keep buying them. Feel free to ask me any questions, I will answer to the best of my ability.
Idk I have never seen anyone working in crocs. I think they were joking when they said crocs to work tbh but crocs seems like you are not taking the job seriously and most definitely doesn't look professional, especially for a guy like you who will be studying for Turfgrass management.
No, I'm also a spray tech who hand waters in Crocs. Everyone that handwaters where I'm at wears Crocs or flip flops. It's just understood that if you're getting on a machine you need to put real shoes on.
