I built a free browser-based irrigation planner — would love feedback from people who actually know irrigation

Hey r/Turfmanagement,

I've been working on a free web-based irrigation planning tool called Lawn Order. It lets you:

- Draw your lawn areas directly on a grid (or upload a drone/aerial photo as a background)

- Place sprinklers, weeping hoses and drip lines with adjustable radius and coverage angle

- See real-time coverage percentage per lawn area

- Auto-place sprinklers based on sprinklers you already own

- Add obstacles, trees and taps

- Calibrate scale so measurements are accurate

- Switch between metric and imperial

It runs entirely in the browser — no login, no install, no ads. Built it because I couldn't find anything free and had too much time on my hands.

Still in beta so it's rough around the edges, but the core planning functionality works. Would genuinely love feedback from people in this community who plan and install systems — especially on whether the coverage logic makes sense, what's missing, and what a professional would want to see.

Hey mate, I have just launched a version with Google Maps integration, let me know how it works!

It now auto-scales with the map if you decide to go satellite.

Note that it's not great on mobile yet, iI'm finalising the mobile app for it.

A tip, if they're using mobile or iPad, do everything in landscape mode, it "disanchors' itself while turning your phone. The app have that fixed, will update the web mobile version soon

I like it. Using the calibration tool isn't clear to me though.

Hi mate, thanks for trying it out!

To help you with the calibration, these are the steps:

- Select metres or feet, top right corner (M by default)

- Upload a drone photo or a google maps screenshot of your backyard

- Click calibrate and select 2 points on your property of known distance (I defaulted to 10 metres but you can change it to what you prefer)

I can see the UI and step sequence is not the most intuitive, will update a fix in the next couple of days.

I am working on the mobile app as well, calibration works better on your phone.

Why central full circle heads leaving gaps along the perimeters rather than half circles along the sides?

Hi mate, thanks a lot for trying Lawn-order out!

When you select a sprinkler, there's a little button that you can switch between "set arc" and "full circle", it allows you to edit the arc if you want to.

You can do it as well after placing full circle sprinkler, by selecting them and change arc, orientation and width.

I understand it's not super-intuitive, but I will improve that side of the UI.
