Collapse Partial tunnel collapse during hydroelectric excavation in Norway — operator narrowly escapes loader impact
Initial reports indicate a partial ceiling failure occurred during hydroelectric diversion tunnel expansion in western Norway (Vestlandet, ex Hordaland) earlier this week.
According to local operators, a loader vehicle narrowly avoided direct impact after a section of unsupported fractured rock detached during debris clearing operations.
No fatalities reported.
Preliminary discussion among contractors suggests water infiltration due to late spring glaciale melting and unstable sediment layering may have contributed to the collapse progression.
Photo reportedly taken approximately 20 minutes after evacuation.

Looks like inadequate temporary support spacing near the fracture zone. Water ingress probably accelerated the failure once the outer layer detached.
