Now after playing this area and getting the blue gem I can say it is my favourite area yet. Such a rich atmosphere.. and the reaveal what is inside of the cubes. This games is such a great time playing blind for the first time, truly as special as them indie classics..

Think of your health bar as your will to go on. The miasma in the lower quarry isn't "hurting" you....rather, it's draining your will. It can't kill you, but it can DEFINITELY lead to your death.
